Cruise in comfort on our 12m rigid inflatable boat, the Ocean Defender, purpose-built for small-group tours and whale watching. Enjoy a stunning scenic ride offering panoramic views of K'gari (formerly Fraser Island) as you head into the protected waters of Platypus Bay, the world's first Whale Heritage Site - a unique resting area and playground for the East Australian Humpbacks on their migration - part of the Great Sandy Biosphere and Great Sandy Marine Park. The tour is led by marine scientists, providing expert interpretation of whale behaviours, as well as facts and findings from ongoing, world-leading research. Listen to whale songs through underwater hydrophones. Take lots of photos from water-level views, and become an advocate for healthy oceans by supporting whale research, marine education and ocean conservation in Australia.

Outstanding whale encounters. Whales clearly felt safe and unthreatened by our presence. They were curious and came in to check us out. Exceptional, informative 3 hours on the water. A wonderful afternoon with the whales in Hervey Bay. Had almost 2 hours surrounded by these beautiful creatures, some so close you could almost touch them. We saw breaching in the distance too. Plenty of information imparted to us by the wonderful staff as we whale watched.
The sunset whale watching tour with Pacific Whale Foundation* was excellent. It is on a smallish open sea worthy boat. Take a warm jacket for the sunset. Blessedly they had blankets to hand around. My booking experience with Viator was fraught. It took about 6 phone calls back and forth to the tour company to confirm they had received the booking I made on the day. The tour company were very helpful in sorting out my dilemma. Next time I’d book directly with *PWF.

This is our third trip in 3 years and each time it’s different and each time has been fantastic sighting of whales. Today was spectacular spending about an hour with a pod of 5-6 whales so close to the boat! Fabulous

The best experience possible. We went in July right at the beginning of whale watching season so didn’t expect all too much. We saw more whales than we could count! We saw multiple double breaches with more than one whale jumping out the water at the same time more than once. Truly an experience that will stay with us forever. The provider is a non for profit organisation with all the funds going to the research and conservation of the amazing whales. Whole thing organised brilliantly, simply a must do.

Hervey Bay's Ultimate Whale Watch - A Tourism Australia Signature Experience was brilliant. The crew, especially Cassie, made the trip unforgettable with her superb commentary, enthusiasm, and knowledge. We saw numerous tail slaps, breaches, and even had an eye-to-eye encounter. This is the second time we have been out with them. The marine biologist on board was brilliant and so knowledgeable. It is a great small boat which is very well operated by the skipper. I would recommend to anyone.
