Hands-on Veggie Dumpling Workshop in Shanghai

We wanted to try something more interactive than sightseeing, and this dumpling class was a really nice way to spend a relaxed afternoon together. The chef showed us step by step how to make the dough and then fold the dumplings, and we had plenty of time to practise. It was not easy at the begining but by the end, we were quite proud of what we had made. Afterwards, the dumplings were steamed and we got to sit down and eat them together. They were fresh and delicious, and somehow tasted even better because we had made them ourselves. A fun little date, a new skill to take home, and a very tasty memory from Shanghai!

A few of us parents brought our children to the dumpling-making class together, and it was a great fun afternoon for everyone. The kids were excited to get involved, especially learning how to fill and fold their own dumplings. The instructors were very patient with the children and gave everyone plenty of time to practise. The children were so proud seeing a whole table filled with dumplings they had made themselves. At the end, everything was steamed and we got to enjoy our creations together. The dumplings were delicious, and even some of the children who were initially unsure about the vegetarian filling happily ate them. A relaxed, hands-on experience and a great way for families to spend time together while introducing the children to Chinese food and culture.

My partner and I joined the dumpling-making class together and had a great time. We definitely weren’t very good at the beginning, but after making quite a few, our dumplings started looking much better! It became a bit of a friendly competition to see who could make the nicest one. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, with plenty of time to practise and enjoy the experience without feeling rushed. I came here with my daughter, and we had such a fun and enjoyable time together. We had tried making dumplings at home before, but we always struggled with the wrapping and could never quite get them to look right. During the class, we had plenty of time to practise the different wrapping and folding techniques. The instructor was very patient and showed us where we had been going wrong. After making quite a few dumplings, we could really see the improvement, which was very satisfying. It was a lovely way for us to spend some quality mother-daughter time together while also learning a useful new skill. Definitely a fun and memorable experience that we’ll try to recreate at home.

Our company is based nearby, and we booked the dumpling workshop as a small after-work team building activity. It turned out to be a great choice, relaxed, interactive, and much more fun than simply going out for dinner together. The staff were friendly and patient. There was plenty of laughing and comparing whose dumplings looked the best! Once everything was steamed, we sat down together and ate what we had made, which made a very satisfying dinner after work. It was a nice way to unwind, do something creative together, and spend time with colleagues outside the office. The location was also very convenient for us. Would definitely recommend it for small company or team gatherings in Shanghai.

We did this dumpling workshop as a family with our three children and had such a lovely time. Our daughter is vegetarian, so we thought this would be an especially nice activity where she could enjoy everything without having to check the ingredients. Surprisingly the boys loved the veggie dumplings too! The workshop was fun and easy to follow, and everyone enjoyed learning how to make and fold their own dumplings. Once they were cooked, we also got to eat what we had made, and they were genuinely delicious. It was a really enjoyable activity to do together as a family and something a little different from the usual sightseeing in Shanghai. I happily ate every single one I made, and it turned out to be the perfect lunch. The atmosphere was cozy but calming, it was a great relaxing time during the travels. The Monkey King costume was actually prepared for the Peking Opera mask workshop. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to do that class this time, but the staff were so friendly that they helped me put on the costume and even showed me how to strike this pose. My friend and I were looking for something cultural and relaxing to do during a hot afternoon in Shanghai, and this calligraphy class turned out to be the perfect. The instructor was patient and welcoming, introducing us to the basics of traditional Chinese calligraphy and showing us how to hold the brush and write each character with the correct strokes. It was surprisingly calming, and there was something very satisfying about slowing down and focusing on each brushstroke. One of the best parts was creating our own calligraphy pieces to take home as souvenirs. It felt much more meaningful than buying a souvenir from a shop because we had made it ourselves. The instructor was incredibly patient and encouraging. By the end of the class, each of us had made more than 20 dumplings, so we had plenty of opportunities to practise. It was amazing to see how much better we got with each one! I’ll definitely try to come back for their other activities with my friends too. They also offer other instresting culture culture activities, and painting pandas on Chinese fans and making Chinese knot bracelets are already on my list for my next visit!

We always loved ordering pan-fried dumplings at Chinese restaurants, but this was our first time learning to make steamed dumplings ourselves. We're definitely going to try making them at home. Even though the filling was vegetarian, the children still loved them! The staff were also super friendly and patient, guiding us through every step and making the whole experience easy to follow.
