Half Day Guided Thai Cooking Class in Chiang Mai

Baan Thai is awesome! The instructors were so kind and informative. You can tell they really love what they do. You start off in a local market briefly learning about local spices and herbs (with some time to buy your own to take home) before going to the cooking school to prepare dinner. We made an appetizer, curry, noodle dish, and dessert. Each person gets to pick four dishes they want to make for themselves, and you can modify all to fit your dietary preferences/needs (vegan, vegetarian, allergies). They taught us about the specific flavors each ingredient adds to the dish and which parts of Thailand each dish originates from. Every part of the cooking process feels so authentic and culturally grounded. Everything is family friendly, great for young kids too, and one of the team members even takes high quality camera photos that you get emailed to you at the end of the night. Every dish we made came out SO good; it was really hard to believe that WE made it. Hands down best pad thai, pad see ew, mango sticky rice, and panang curry we have ever eaten, in the US and at local restaurants in Thailand. Again, hard to believe it came from us!

We took this class on our honeymoon and came back 19 years later with our kids. Boon and Tommy are absolutely fabulous! They are friendly, knowledgeable and fun. This is truly a fabulous cooking class—you make absolutely delicious dishes. Every thing is so good! They keep the classes small, unlike some other companies, and for us it was just our family. It’s a must for! They take nice photos throughout the class and send you a link. Nice bonus!

Thanks to a friend's tip, we were able to participate in the afternoon cooking class today. We had the incredible luck of being by ourselves. Boom and Romy did an incredibly beautiful job. First, we drove to the local market to go shopping, and then we drove to the cooking school. We cooked 4 dishes per person and EVERYONE was allowed to choose what they wanted to cook - the dessert was set. It was a great experience and everything tasted fantastic ❤️❤️ Thank you for the experience - we can recommend it without reservation!!

Amazing cooking class with Boom and Tommy! Clear instructions, all ingredients already prepped on beforehand, very clean kitchen, very good english speaking and we got some pictures taken by them after the experience. Thank you so much ❤️

Such a unique and lovely activity to do - great for if you something more chilled and slower paced. Our guides were so friendly and the whole experience was so interesting and refreshing.

Absolutely amazing time at Baan Thai. The class and the visit to the local market were great fun and very well structured. The food we cooked (and ate!) was divine. Thank you so much Boom and Tommy for such a memorable experience - for those thinking of taking a cooking class when you’re in Chiang Mai, I cannot recommend Baan enough.

Great family experience with Thai cookery school. 4 hours of exchange and culinary sharing on Thai cuisine. Market with an explanation of the ingredients we would use then design and tasting the dishes we had chosen. The experience could even make us believe that we are a super Thai cook and all thanks to the staff of the Thai cookery school. The whole family was delighted We recommend without moderation

Great event! Tom and Boom were excellent instructors and made it fun! We were lucky to have them to just our group. We were picked up at hotel and taken to a local market where we learned about ingredients and they picked up fresh items for our class. We had a few minutes there to shop as well. Then on to close cooking class, almost like being welcomed to a home, we were greeted with a delightful refreshing tea & snack. And then got to work on cooking and eating several courses! Delicious and no need to eat the rest of the day! We left with cook books and pictures . If you are staying in the central / old city inside the wall the location is excellent. Highly recommend, wonderful experience.

Great cooking class in Chiang Mai. The class was lead by Tommy and Boom and they were both super friendly and full of enthusiastic. We started with a trip to the local market to look and fresh herbs and vegetables used in Thai cooking. Back in the kitchen we worked our way through several recipes, enjoying the taste of each dish as we finished. Although we cook Thai dishes at home it was great to learn some new techniques to improve our cooking. The class is very well organised with some prepping for each dish and helpful demonstrations along the way. There is also a recipe book provided. We enjoyed the class and found it a fun, enjoyable experience. Would suggest bringing some drinks to enjoy with the meal. Highly recommended!
