Half-Day Guided Hike to Afareaitu Waterfall

Highly Recommend 10/10!! Teiva was our guide and it was more than an excursion, it was a cultural and magical experience. He told us so many stories about the legends and culture. We tried fruits straight from the garden, and hiked to a sacred waterfall to swim. I can’t recommend this enough!! Book early it books up!

I am Tahitian and I only knew Makemo; since my family is athletic and loves history, we were well served by Yvette, who was adorable and explained the history of the waterfall and the island perfectly! We appreciated César and the meal served afterward with good fresh fruit picked and prepared; the boys were delighted 🤩

A wonderful experience thanks to Mari's numerous explanations about Polynesian flora and culture. Being able to swim under the waterfall and taste the local fruits was a real plus.

Teva our guide was really the best, he’s energetic, funny, knowledgeable, passionate, and super kind. He taught us about all of the different trees and plants, led us to the waterfall, and we ended with a beautiful presentation of fruits to try. The hike is a bit tricky and a bit dangerous in places but I would totally recommend if you’re athletic and under 50.

Very beautiful experience. We were two among a larger group, but still small to keep the luxury of the experience. Our two guides were very pleasant and were keen for us to understand the history of Polynesia, of the waterfall. We learned a lot about the plants, flowers, and Polynesian nature. We absolutely recommend the tour whether you are tourists or even residents. Very suitable for families, for couples. After walking a bit, we swam in the Afareaitu waterfall before enjoying various fruits.

We loved this hiking experience!!! I went with my mom, aunt, and cousin. None of us are serious hikers, and two members of our group are more cautious hikers. The guides were excellent in helping us navigate the more difficult sections, and one guide showed us exactly where to put our feet on the path. The waterfall was beautiful, and we had so much fun swimming in the waterfall. Coming back to a beautiful spread of fresh fruit was the cherry on top. Despite not being frequent hikers, we felt very safe and cared for by the guides. If you are interested in this hike but are a cautious/slow hiker like us, know that the guides are amazing at helping navigate, and the provided bamboo sticks (take two!) were super helpful! One thing to note: we went in the dry season, and if you are going in the rainy season it can be very slippery, so know your comfort level for that. We loved this excursion, especially since they picked us up on the cruise ferry port on the other side of the island for no additional cost and took us to a lookout point in the way back. 10/10 experience!!!!

My husband and I loved our experience with Yvette on this super cool and somewhat challenging hike. She taught us so much about the island, Polynesian history and culture, and local flora and fauna, and she generously made us the most delicious lunch with all kinds of fruits!

If you are interested in the Tahitian culture & use of different plants & flowers this is the tour for you! The very authentic (not commercial) tour through the botanical gardens and the presentation/sampling of the rich fruits of Moorea was in-depth, fun, and interesting. Both Marie and Teava were very knowledgeable and added a personal touch by sharing family stories. The hike to the falls was short but very steep, muddy, and slippery in places. The beautiful pool underneath the falls was chilly but refreshing and well worth it. My husband, who is not really a plant person, was not as impressed but I found it to be well worth it.
