Wat Phra Sri Sanphet
Admission not included5 min
Wat Phra Si Sanphet (Thai: วัดพระศรีสรรเพชญ์; "Temple of the Holy, Splendid Omniscient") was the holiest temple on the site of the old Royal Palace in Thailand's ancient capital of Ayutthaya until the city was completely destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. It was the grandest and most beautiful temple in the capital and it served as a model for Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok.
Wat Mahathat
Admission not included10 min
Wat Mahathat, “the temple of the Great Relic” was one of the most important temples in the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Located on the historical island the large monastery features a huge central prang, a very large principal viharn and ubosot and a great number of subsidiary chedis and viharns. The upper part of its once massive central prang has collapsed. Today only the base remains.
One of the temple’s most photographed objects is the head of a stone Buddha image entwined in the roots of a tree.
Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Lokayasutharam)
10 min
Wat Lokaya Sutha is a massive temple ruin. It is aligned toward an east/west axis. The monastery has been heavily restored, including floor tiles and brick floors throughout. Most of the temple exists only at the basic foundation level. This includes some stubs of pillars and basic walls. At the eastern entrance are the remnants of three vihans. Behind these sermon halls is a large 30 meters high, Late Ayutthaya period, Khmer-style prang. This prang-tower has a hollow entrance on its eastern side. The remains of an ubsot can be seen behind the prang. Only the basic foundation layer has survived, but there are many sema stones and the detritus of Buddha images. A large bell tower stands on the southwestern corner of this ubosot.
The highlight of this temple is its enormous reclining Buddha image (37 meters long and 8 meter high), which is located behind the ubosot.
10 min
Ayuthaya is famous for its sweet Muslim snacks, curries and nám prík (spicy dip), and the bustling undercover Chao Phrom Market is the place to find them, plus assorted Thai-Chinese and other Muslim dishes. Operating hours of this daytime market depend on individual vendors but it's at its peak during the early afternoon.

Evening bike ride
Very nice and beautiful trip made with Min. He could tell us a lot about the different temples. Very interesting!
The trip is fine to do, your bike through the neighborhoods at a pleasant pace. It is also very nice to cycle through the neighborhoods where the Thai people live.
Great food on the way.

You drive a lot along the highway where cars rush by. There was only 1 guide. She was leading the way and didn't look back. Sometimes I stayed a bit behind and hoped to catch up again. She had a bike with a lot of gears. I asked if it could be slowed down, but we were in a hurry. (It was 32 degrees though) All in all I thought it was irresponsible and irresponsible. Glad I wasn't with my son. The guide was nice but rode ahead and didn't see if we followed.

Beste Tineke,
R

Great way to explore the ancient sites of Ayutthaya!
We had an amazing time cycling through town with Bella! The office where you meet up is a little bit out of the way but you can get there easily by Grab or tuk tuk (or motorbike if you have one). Once we arrived we were greeted by Bella and it turned out we were the only ones who booked that night, so it turned into a private cycling tour. We first took the ferry across the river which was really cool and cycled around until we arrived at Wat Mahathat, we then continued on for a stroll around the night market and tasted a few local snacks/appetisers which were all great! After this we continued Wat Phra Ram and Wat Phra Si Sanphet before we stopped at a very local spot for dinner. Bella ordered a hunch of dishes for us to try and all of them were very delicious and we had never tried before. We were also the only foreigners in this place which tells you how local it was, we absolutely loved this! After dinner we finished the tour by cycling back to the office.
All in all this was an amazing experience and a huge thanks to Bella for making this tour so enjoyable. Just be aware that since this is in the evening the Wats will be closed so you'll enjoy them from outside the grounds, which is still very impressive. Highly recommended doing this tour to give you a different perspective of the city at night.

Great!
The bikes were in great condition. Our guide was really knowledgeable and personable. We saw some amazing sites, and a particular highlight was standing at the top of one of the temples, as the sunset, as the bats were flying out of the temple en masse! Just stunning!
