Don’t go on this excursion! The provider only cares about money and not you!
They should have canceled from the get-go. We literally paid a ton of money to see nothing. The driver picked us up and he was late. Even though they asked us to be there early and we were there, and we sat and waited.
It was fog and rain the entire time. Even the weather forecast stated it was not good and we for sure thought it would be canceled, but it was not and because it was so expensive and couldn’t cancel we ended up going on the trip.
Although the driver was very nice and knowledgeable. He just was over the top.
He talked too much!
As for the dinner, it was lukewarm, and we sat in the van eating it. It was very mediocre.
We realize that they need to make money and that these tours probably go well for the most part however, when all of us spent as much money as we did, it was so disappointing. All of the passengers on the van were disappointed and we were just ready to cut our losses and wanted to get back to our ship but the driver talked and talked and talked, and he didn’t get any clues from the whole group that we were tired and we wanted to just get back to our ship so we could do something fun and instead we just sat in the van basically for six hours doing nothing.
I would never recommend this trip because you’ll end up in the situation if the weather is bad! We realize that they couldn’t do anything with the weather, but as I said this trip should have been canceled!! I would say look for a different provider for this experience…

Sunset tour gets back...
Sunset tour gets back little late but great experience. The views and scenery amazing throughout . Enough stops for restroom and food/snacks. Our tour guide Mike was extremely knowledgeable of history of Hawaii especially Maui and the volcano.

Haleakala Sunsets Rock!
See all the beautiful colors without getting up at 2 AM! Michael was a wonderful guide who was truly passionate about Haleakala National Park. The views on the way up are spectacular and not driving allowed us all the ability to enjoy them. The sunset was amazing but what we most enjoyed was seeing the stars. Breathtaking! It was nice having a choice from a menu for dinner. Also, there were plenty of bathroom spots. Getting a chance to talk to the Menehune was fun.

Amazing experience at the sunset tour
It is breathtaking and it will get cold once the sun goes down. Mike did an absolute amazing job!!! He was knowledgeable, friendly, and very prepared. We went back and forth on going ourselves or with a tour, and I am glad we went with the tour. I highly recommend this tour.

Amazing Sunset, Disappointing Tour Experience
The sunset at Haleakalā was absolutely stunning and well worth seeing. Unfortunately, the tour itself was disappointing.
Our guide was a genuinely nice person and clearly passionate about sharing information, but there was simply far too much talking. I don’t mind learning about the history and culture, in fact, I enjoy it, but there was almost no quiet time to take in the scenery or enjoy the drive. The commentary felt constant, and the delivery wasn’t particularly engaging, making the ride feel much longer than it needed to.
The tour also included more stops than expected, which pushed us well past the scheduled return time. We were supposed to be back at our resort by 10:00 p.m. but didn’t arrive until after 11:00 p.m., leaving everyone exhausted.
The included dinner was another letdown. Rather than enjoying a sit-down meal, we were given a takeout container to eat on the bus, which felt underwhelming considering the cost of the tour.
If you’re considering this tour, know that the scenery is incredible, but be prepared for a very long day, a guide who provides nearly nonstop commentary, and a fairly basic dinner. I’d recommend looking for a tour that offers a more relaxed pace and allows guests more time to simply enjoy the experience.

Michael Reed knows his stuff and went beyond the job to make sure we had the best experience.
If you can choose a driver Michael Reed is the one to choose. He made the excursion great.
The told us Hawaiian history, cultural facts, jokes and he added his personal touch like keeping our dinner warm until we ate, after he served us hot coco.
He was mindful of the 7 hour tour and made timely bathroom breaks.
On the way down Michael stopped on the side of the road to “thank the Menehune”. I’ll leave it at that as I don’t want to spoil the surprise.
Of course the sunset was beautiful and after he showed us stars and constellations. A great tour.

Incredible views and fantastic tour!
Our tour guide Michael was very knowledgeable about Hawaiian culture and made sure we had a wonderful time throughout the tour. Dinner was delicious (verry generous portions) and hot chocolate or tea after sunset was a welcomed treat to warm up. The sunset was breathtaking and staying to do a little stargazing was incredible. The bus was clean and comfortable. Thank you for allowing us to join your Ohana for the tour.
For future visitors: definitely make sure you bring multiple layers. The wind is brisk and temperatures drop quickly at the summit.

Haleakala Heaven
This is a once in a lifetime experience that combines history, ecology, and stars. Our tour guide, Michael was well versed in everything, with plenty experience dealing with a disparate group of people. He kept us interested and informed by starting many stories and coming back to them to complete at different points. There were few questions asked because he covered everything. The sunset encounter was so fascinating because the light changed rapidly and was over before we knew it. But what came next after most other people left the park was so memorable. One by one, the stars blinked open. Michael was ready to direct our attention to the constellations, adding facts about what they meant for ancient people. He supplied hot chocolate or tea to keep us warm. I would recommend this trip to older kids and adults.

Haleakala Sunset
The best tour I have been on thus far! Would book with Mike, our tour guide, again. Very intimate setting, Mike was so nice and very knowledgeable. I love how we were picked up at our hotel, dinner was provided, even hot cocoa or hot tea! Worth every penny!
