Had a coupon to use and it has been a while since we have seen the bats emerge, but I've always done it from land. This was a different experience seeing them come out over the water. Our guide was Ethan and he was great and knowledgable about the bats and also Austin in general. Check in was easy. Getting on the water was easy. We got a chance to go up the river some instead of just sitting under the bridge for an hour. The only issue I had was that I had to make a pit stop prior to taking off and they had two outside facing restrooms but one was being held up by a homeless man so that left one bathroom for the entire group and there was a line.
Great time! Walked up, signed waiver, and hopped in Kayak within 10 minutes after a quick how to and safety chat! Ethan was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about area. We kayaked down past bridge to discuss area and then came back just as bats started coming out. SUPER COOL! I wanted to do something different and this fit the bill. Sunset on the water was beautiful and watching the bats come out was amazing.
It was one of the most unique experience! I had so much fun! Our tour guide was great. I’d highly recommend!
So fun. We had a big group of 10 and it was really fun. Learn a little about downtown Austin and the bats that live there.
A lot of fun! Our guides name was Bo and he was Outstanding! Very cool watching the bats come out as the sun started to set.
It was fun and cool to kayak around and learn info about austin and the bats. The tour guide was really nice and informative The one down side is we were late to seeing the bats come out, which was the reason for doing to tour and we missed the coolest part and im disappointed about that. I know you never know exactly when the bats come out but we should have been there waiting when the sun set. We still saw a lot of bats coming out but it was already dark by the time we were fully underneath all of the action. Would have been night at the start when there was still a little bit of light. Im actually really really disappointed. They should have given us some sort of future discount or a slight refund for missing what we payed to come and see but they didnt do anything about it.
From start to finish, the tour was entertaining and professional. We learned so much from Katie. She did an amazing job.😀
Great kayaking experience—perfect for beginners. Going in early August meant we got to see tons of bats since it was right after birthing season. Ethan was a great guide! It was a fun way to see the city and learn a bit about it while waiting for the bats to take off. As others mentioned, our group did wind up being larger than 12–probably close to double that—which was fine, but is different than the listing.
The tour was great, perfect for us. Our guide, Lauren, was friendly and knowledgeable about Austin’s river, buildings and bats. Would highly recommend - appreciated duration and beginner friendly level.
My partner and I are spending our first week in Austin and we’d read about the bats at Congress Avenue bridge so we had this down as a must do! When looking for places to see them, watching on the water seemed like the best spot. After some research we found Austin Rowing Club and I’m so glad that we did!! From the minute we walked up, the staff were so friendly and helpful, giving us water for the tour and also dry bags to protect our valuables. Our tour guide Ethan was incredible; super funny, super friendly and super informative. Ethan definitely made this tour worth the money, and he helped to make me feel more comfortable when I was really nervous (having never kayaked before.) We didn’t expect to learn so much about Austin during the tour either, so this was a really great addition! For anybody undecided about whether to do this I’d say it’s a must! Thank you Austin Rowing Club & Thank you Ethan for a fantastic evening!
