You’d be hard-pressed to find better cupcakes in Manhattan. You can create your own cupcake concoctions (frosting, flavor, etc.) and the atmosphere is like a retro classroom. It’s too cool for school.

Description

Six tastings, twelve guests, three hours, and one guide who actually lives here. You'll eat your way down Bleecker and MacDougal through the falafel counter, the pizza window, and the fry shop that locals line up for, and finish it off with delicious cupcakes. You will explore the most iconic streets and hidden corners of Greenwich Village on this guided walking tour through one of New York City’s most historic neighborhoods. The route includes stops at Father Demo’s Square, Manetta Lane, Manetta Tavern, Cafe Wha, McDougle Street, and NYU, before opening up into Washington Square Park and the famous Arch. You’ll also see the Hangman’s Elm, Washington Square Hotel, the Friends building, Grove Court, the narrowest house in New York, the oldest wooden house in the Village, Cherry Lane Theatre, and Cornelia Street, once home to Taylor Swift, all while uncovering the stories that give the Village its unmistakable character. Beer and Wine available at select stops.

Greenwich Village Walking

Itinerary

5 min

Meeting point and ending point. We finish up at this award-winning cupcake place. It’s too-cool-for-school with desks, retro lunch boxes and even swings. Oh and cupcakes to die for.

Pass by

Bleecker has been the Village's food street since the families who opened these shops got here, and enough of them are still open to prove it.

10 min

Faicco's has so many items that will make your mouth water. We sample their arancini (rice ball) and sopressata (salami) and I promise you, these bite sized delights pack a culinary punch that last long after the tour.

Pass by

One short block that Taylor Swift rented on and later wrote a song about. It was a restaurant row long before that, and a few of them are still hanging on.

15 min

Since opening in 2016 in the West Village, Taco Mahal has built a cult following for its bold fusion of Indian and Mexican flavors. Founded by Danikkah Josan, the concept blends her Indian roots and Latina heritage into something totally unique. This place is the real deal with tacos served on fresh naan or roti, packed with rich curries, vibrant spices, and flavor you won’t find anywhere else in NYC.

20 min

We will try the world famous and food network favorite nonna Maria pizza. Also, beer and wine available for purchase

Pass by

Nine and a half feet wide, the narrowest house in New York. Edna St. Vincent Millay lived in it. You'll want a photo and you'll get about four feet to take it from.

Pass by

Off-Broadway started here. Founded in 1924 on a street most people never find, and still running, which in this city counts as a miracle.

Pass by

Six brick houses around a private courtyard, built in the 1850s and completely hidden unless you know to look through the gate. Most people walk past it every day.

Pass by

You've seen this corner about two hundred times. The apartment inside was never as big as the one on screen, and the restaurant on the ground floor is one of the neighborhood's harder tables to get.

Pass by

The oldest wooden house left in the Village. Fire codes ended construction like this in Manhattan, which is why there's essentially one of these and this is it.

Pass by

The Stonewall Inn is such a huge historical site - literally and figuratively. We pass by the prideful institution as well as its new statue which was installed to commemorate it’s 50th anniversary.

Pass by

The oldest living thing in Manhattan, somewhere around three and a half centuries. The name comes from a story historians can't confirm and locals refuse to give up.

5 min

Stanford White's marble arch, built to mark a century since Washington's inauguration. The most photographed thing in the neighborhood and almost nobody knows what it's for.

15 min

Washington Square Park is legendary. You’ve seen it in a ton of films, it’s the unofficial campus of NYU students and you’ll see some of the coolest people in the city here. Feed pigeons. Hear musicians and watch street performers. You never know what to expect. Oh except for the mighty arch which is, of course, renowned.

15 min

The best falafel you’ll ever have in Manhattan or perhaps anywhere. It’s no surprise they’ve been around since 1971 - the longest Middle Eastern spot in all of New York.

30 min

Pommes Frites has the best fries in the city or probably anywhere. Authentic Belgian fries that are double cooked and topped with extraordinary sauces - choose from over 30! Also - beer on tap and wine selection are available for purchase and YES we will be there long enough to finish it.

Pass by

The block that launched more careers than any other in New York. Comedy clubs, coffee houses, and the doorways where a lot of famous people got told no before they got told yes.

Pass by

Bob Dylan's first night in New York was on this stage. Hendrix played here too. The room is still open, still small, and still doing the same thing.

Pass by

The Comedy Cellar is New York City's legendary stand-up comedy club, presenting live comedy seven nights a week in the heart of Greenwich Village.

Pass by

A small triangle of park named for the priest who spent decades looking after the Italian families who built this neighborhood. The church he ran is still across the street.

The best Greenwich Village Food Tour

We had the best time with Ian on the Greenwich Village Food tour! He was amazing and made the 3 hour tour go by quickly. Ian was super knowledgeable about the area and shared lots of fun stories and historic facts with us. We visited 6 delicious spots with more food than we could eat. I highly recommend Ian if you want to have a great tour!

The Best for Greenwich Village Foodies!

Oh my gosh! This was such a great tour! Ian, our guide, met us at Molly’s Cupcakes, an award winner from Cupcake Wars. We were tempted by all the different cupcake options but our guide told us we’d end with a cupcake for our last stop. We walked around the Greenwich Village neighborhood gathering lots of information about the history and sights in the area. We sampled so much great food—Indian themed tacos, Italian rice balls, Belgian fries, falafel, and of course, pizza. We walked around Washington Square Park and saw the historic Stonewall Inn. Thankfully we walked enough to wear off a few calories. We ended with a cupcake of our choice from Molly’s. My five teen granddaughters all rated this tour a 10+ . I thought Ian, our guide, was very knowledgeable of the history of Greenwich Village and can’t rate him high enough! Thanks for a fantastic three hours in Greenwich Village!!

Operator response

Thank you very much!

Great Food, GREAT Guide

I can not give enough good words about David. I felt like we were eating with a friend. A rain delay slowed us down in a restaurant, but we just ordered another piece of pizza. Everything we tried was simply amazing. Thank you, David!!

Operator response

Thank you so much for your kind words! Nothing like pizza to help wait out the rain. Please join us again!
