Fort Aguada Beach
The fort was constructed in 1612 to guard the Bardez sub-district against the Dutch and the Marathas. It was a reference point for the vessels coming from Europe at that time. This old Portuguese fort stands on the beach south of Candolim. The fort got its name from a freshwater spring within the fort that provided water supply to the ships that used to stop by- Aguada meaning Water. Crews of passing ships would often visit to replenish their freshwater stores. On the fort stands a four-story Portuguese lighthouse, erected in 1864 and the oldest of its kind in Asia. Built in 1612, it was once the grandstand of 79 cannons. It has the capacity of storing 2,376,000 gallons of water, one of the biggest freshwater storages of the time in whole of Asia. This fort is divided in two segments: the upper part acted as fort and watering station, while the lower part served as a safe berth for Portuguese ships. Whereas the upper part has a moat, underground water storage chamber, gunpowder room, lighthouse, and bastions, it also has a secret escape passage to use during time of war and emergency. The lighthouse at the initial stage is used to emit light once in 7 minutes. In 1834 it was changed to emit light creating eclipse every 30 seconds, however, it was abandoned in 1976.Fort Aguada was the most prized and crucial fort of Portuguese. The fort is so large that it envelops the entire peninsula at the southwestern tip of Bardez. Built on the mouth of river Mandovi, it was strategically located and was the chief defence of Portuguese against the Dutch and Marathas.During the Salazar Administration, Fort Aguada was repurposed for use as a prison primarily, some claim, for Salazar's political opponents.[citation needed]

Tour GOA
We went to the Fort, Old Goa. See the 2 churches of St Francis, and we had the luck to see the glass cove. Went through the local market. Walked on the beach Marinar. See the Portugese houses which now become restaurants. Then see the Festival. So, the tourguide Mr. Chandan was very good and told about a lof of things. History of GOA.

Beware
The transport didn't turn up, we hunted high and low at every possible place they could have been waiting. We called the telephone number we had for their office and it was turned off all morning. We chat mailed them 3 times and had no reply. They have taken our money and did not provide the service. They sent us tickets and confirmed everything was OK and even reminded us of the time and date of the tour. Beware.

Pathetic tour and driver...
One of the worst tours...the trip organizer was good but the driver was a nightmare...i mean you pick up guests from a five star and take them to the shadiest of places...most of the times he was imposing his choice of places on us rather than following out instructions... totally shady guy...i would not recommend this tour to anyone...for the money I paid i literally feel looted...

Amazing Africa
Xavier (the tour operator) chooses unique exciting destinations usually ignored by large commercial tour operators. Xavier makes the experience exciting and remains calm in adversity. Great value for money. If it wasn't for Speed Bird I wouldn't have been able to take a photo at Pio Gama Pinto road at Nairobi. Goan origin Pio became a leading light of Kenyan freedom movement.

Convenient location, the office is centrally located in Panjim.The Holiday packages to choose, from Worldwide Travel Options is Excellent. One can Travel with Peace of mind and travel worry free with all services pre- booked. Group tours available too to book. I would rate the agency as the Best in Goa. Did notice that the Travel Agency has been in business, serving the Goa Market since 1985. Very well established with Premium Service offered. Thank you.
