This was a cute and fun experience. Found two gold flakes and they give you a vile to put it in to take him with you. It’s a good way to spend an hour if you have the time.

Gold pan near a salmon stream in Seward. Learn the art of panning for Alaskan gold in the elevated troughs. This 1-hour activity is family friendly.
The canvas-covered log framed structure where we pan for gold is located just across from our walking bridge, between our office and the gift shop. Depending on the salmon run, we can often spy salmon in the creek. The covered troughs allow us to stay dry while panning, which makes this the perfect activity, rain or shine!

We had a fun hour panning for gold with Adventure Sixty North. When we arrived we were informed that we had booked for the next day. The staff were so nice and accommodating, fitting us in at the last minute. Zea was so friendly and knowledgeable and you wouldn’t have know she got pulled off from what she was doing at the last minute to be with us, When she had to leave the operations manager (whose name escapes me ) filled in for her. Both were so kind and friendly and knowledgeable. Adventure Sixty North you have two great employees!
Had a wonderful experience with our Guide Joe, who taught us the techniques of panning for Gold. We were able to see the flakes of gold stand out as we removed the silt & rocks. He helped us put them in vials to bring home. Enjoyed our time there
Fun authentic Alaska experience! Our guide/driver, Zaya, was super friendly and knowledgeable about the gold history and panning technique. We found gold and some little semi precious stones!
It was a good experience and learning about panning for gold
Nice kid explained what to do but we only got one bag and was done in 20 mins- certainly didn’t need an hour- not much found in our bags.
My two teenagers and I attended a gold panning session one rainy afternoon in July. The site was a quick drive from Seward with clear instructions on how to get there. We checked in at the office cabin, and both workers were very friendly to chat with us and ask us how our time in Seward has been. My daughter loved the office dog which was a Golden, of course! The gold panning area was set up under a tent roof, and there was also no need to wear boots as the ground was dry. Our guide, Joe, was the perfect person for the job. Joe was personable and knowledgeable. He gave us a quick history of the Seward gold rush and was funny when he described how the miners would put their pans to multiple uses. Joe was approachable and fielded our many questions. He was excited each time one in the group would shout Eureka! If asked, he also helped the "weary prospectors" sift their sand for treasures towards the end. All "prospectors" found real gold flakes and other gems to take home in a small vial. Joe even showed us a moose antler that he had found on a recent hike! He passed it around, and we all got to inspect it. The nine of us in our session were having so much fun that he allowed us to stay several minutes past the scheduled time. Joe's friendliness greatly enriched our experience!
Great experience, lots of educational information about gold panning and history of gold. Price was reasonable. An hour was adequate amount of time for the learning experience. Staff were friendly and helpful. It isn’t at an active mining operation, but it is teaching experience for how to pan for gold. If you are wanting to experience panning without investing in the equipment or you just want to have a little go at panning…this is the experience you want. It was a fun learning experience that gave us a touch of gold to show.
We were instructed on how to pan for gold. We were taken to a covered area with troughs and given a small bag of soil with a few small gems and three specks of gold to look for.Our guide helped as needed. She was pleasant and kind. Personally, I would have appreciated some history about the gold rush and how it came about. Other reviews mentioned humor and fun. The young ones appreciated it more than the adults. States it was to go from 10:30-noon. We were done in about 45 minutes.
Thank you for your feedback Roseanne. I'm sorry to hear the experience was less than what you were hoping for. Our Guides are typically very inforamtive and usually funny (As you mentioned). I'll be discussing these topics with th eguide in question. I will be reaching out to you via email to help resolve the situation with you. Deklan Finley - Operations Manager
This was a great event to do with kids. Learned a little history about the gold rush and then get your own tools and a little bag of dirt to practicing sifting. Each kid did find a little piece of gold, so they were very excited. This was all set up at a cute location, didn’t really go into a river (which we were glad of). Joe the instructor was also phenomenal!
