Itinerary

Reversing Falls Rapids
21 min

A unique phenomenon created by the collision of the Bay of Fundy and the Saint John River. At low tide the river empties into the bay causing a series of rapids and whirlpools. As tides rise they slow the river current for a brief period called slack tide. The Bay's tides continue to rise, gradually reversing the flow of the river; rapids form again, peaking at high tide. A 8.5-metre (28-foot) tide cycle is roughly 12.5 hours.

Oland, Sons and Company in 1870 and later became Moosehead Breweries Limited in 1931. Key milestones include: 1867: Establishment by Susannah Oland. 1917: Rebuilt after a devastating fire. 1970s: Expansion into the U.S. market. Saint John escape

Henry is a good narrator with a solid understanding of Saint John’s history and attractions. He hit on all major points of interest although a couple of them were closed like the Mattel tower which was under repairs and the city market being Sunday.

Operator response

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for your kind words about Henry. We’re glad you enjoyed his knowledge of Saint John’s history and attractions. We appreciate your understanding regarding the temporary closures. Carleton Martello Tower was undergoing repairs, and the Saint John City Market has limited or closed operations on Sundays. While we cannot control individual attraction schedules or maintenance, we always do our best to provide a great experience by sharing the history and significance of these landmarks and visiting or viewing as many highlights as possible. Thank you again for choosing Shore Tours Saint John / S-TOUR NB. We hope to welcome you back to Saint John and the Bay of Fundy for another visit! Warm regards, Shore Tours Saint John / S-TOUR NB

Wonderful Excursion

It was a small group and the bus driver was wonderful. A wealth of information and a local. We had 1 1/2 hour at the Alexander Graham Bell museum, could spend 5-6 hours there if you read everything. No one’s fault, just that much information.
