Itinerary
Built by Rawal Jaisal in the year 1156 AD, Jaisalmer Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the group Hill Forts of Rajasthan. Visit the second oldest Fort also known as Sonar Quila or Sone ka Quila of Rajasthan in the morning with your guide who will share every bit of detail, significance and stories about the royal families. The fort has 99 bastions, from which 92 were built between 1633 and 1647. You will get to see Islamic and Rajput architecture here.
Patwa Haveli or Kothari's Patwa Haveli is one of the most important Havelis of Jaisalmer. It was the first haveli and is not a single haveli but a cluster of 5 small Havelis. Belonged to a trader named Guman Chand Patwa, all these five houses were constructed in the first 60 years of the 19th century hence it is also known as the “mansion of brocade merchants”. It is now a museum featuring intricate carvings, furniture & artwork. The Archeological Survey of India and State art and craft department is situated in the haveli itself.
After exploring the Fort and the Havelis, now proceed towards Gadisar Lake. This lake was first constructed by Raja Rawal Jaisal around 1400 AD and was later reconstructed by Maharawal Gadsi Singh, it is surrounded by many temples and shrines. It also has a desert cultural centre and a museum that stores artefacts. The other attraction that you will see here is Tilon ki Pol, which is a 2-story yellow sandstone gateway with lattices & balconies. You can do boating here at an extra cost.
Visit the 200 year’s old abandoned village Kuldhara. It is believed that due to the Diwan of Jaisalmer the villagers had to abandon the village one night and while going they cursed that no one will ever be able to settle here and whoever tried to repopulate the place has experienced paranormal activities. You can see and even enter the houses of the villagers and from the terrace; one can see the whole village. It is also a perfect spot for pictures
Drive from Kuldhara Village will take 1-2 hours. The best part about the tour is here; now after visiting the abandoned village, you will explore the Thar Desert. Sam Sand dunes, is one of the most authentic desert dune sites in India.

Sanjay was a really wonderful host. The car was new, great aircon. Very relaxed vibe. The Jaisalmer Fort and local town is gorgeous. Loved the catfish and cows. Quite spectacular architecture. Found a local Barista for espresso (sorely missed and greatly appreciated), the silks are a 1/3 of the price compared to government delhi shops. More variety too e.g. lotus silk for vegans. We loved the roodtop view at sunset cafe. Great value and food. The sunset was nice in the Thar desert but probably would skip personaly as not interested in quad bike joy riding and it was awkwardly touristica trap, it was also filled with garbage, I wish I brought a bag and picked some of it up 😥

Rajesh , our guide, was aaaa-mazing. Super knowledgeable, funny, knows everybody, incredibly interesting and talented guy. He really made Jaisalmer special, this town is now one of our favorite places to be. The tour was great, the jeep safari was bonkers fun, and he gave us a solid lesson about the history and importance of this area. We came here for our first wedding anniversary, and I’m not real sure another trip will beat this one.
