I took the Chorao Island Nature, Heritage & Cooking Experience with Soul Travelling on Sunday, 06th September, and it was a masterpiece from start to finish! The morning kicked off beautifully as we uncovered the history of Chorao Island, visited a local temple, and took a short trek up to a historic chapel. Exploring the mangrove forests and touring the spice plantation at Tato Kulagar was incredible. Mr. Kautankar has maintained the land so well, and it was fascinating learning about the local birds before enjoying a delicious breakfast at the farm. The day got even better when we moved to Chudamani Baug, a wonderful farmhouse run by Rajat, who built a stunning mud house using traditional Goan methods. We listened to old Goan stories and got hands-on in the kitchen. I even helped make patoli, khatkhate (a mixed veg curry), and a thamde rosa feni cocktail! Our ambassadors, Daksh and Sairaj, made the entire day flawless. Daksh guided us beautifully through the island's nature and heritage, while Sairaj brought his signature warmth, energy, and deep passion to the cooking experience. Chorao Island
A full packed day including ferry to and from the island; visiting a temple and the Chapel of St. Jeronimus, which the Portuguese historically used as a watch tower over the Zuari river. Seeing the lush cashew plantation on the site of a former 16th century monastery and later experiencing a Feni (cashew nut liqueur) tasting session (wide variety of different flavours - check out the ginger and lemongrass). A traditional Goan lunch was provided in an emerging restaurant and eco-agricultural development - this alone was worth the experience! The day also includes a boat tour around the mangroves, a must for bird watchers. Look closely for crocodiles! Many thanks to our friendly and knowledgeable guide, Atul, who made it all so much more engaging.
