An ok trip but no guide, I am sure there are better guided trips out there! Both islands are amazing but you really are just left to your own devices.
You will have to research what to do there ahead of time and must know that the first island is a much more limited time than allotted for any of the longer hikes. Was not given a blue card for snorkeling, but i signed up for it. Eventually got the equipment before departing
Only about Fitzroy and green island as advertised. There are different tour packages that are all packaged together, so the different drop offs, pick ups, and boat transfers are a little confusing, but the crew does a great job of explaining if you ask. The boat rides out to the islands are rough, so if you get seasick beware. Also wouldn't recommend for new snorkelers, no guides are present on techniques/help with equipment. They drop you on a beach and tell you a pickup time to leave. Very hit or miss if you see anything, I only saw one fish and a few turtles but others saw more. Most of the buffet had nuts in the food- limited selection for allergies (vegetarian had options).
This trip was disorganised. On our booking email it stated that we were to pick up our trip from Cairns Wharf A6. We were required to be redirected twice before getting onto the correct ship, no fault of ours. We were than asked where our blue card was for picking up our snorkel, mask and fins. We weren’t given a card. The staff member responsible for giving out the snorkelling equipment than became agitated. Fitzroy was a beautiful island l do suggest that you wear outdoor hiking sandals to prevent cutting feet on sharp coral. The coral was the beach surface. Lunch was great and had a variety of multi cultural foods. Green island was beautiful saw plenty of fish over the ocean bed which was grassed tuffs. On getting on board for final count before taking off back to Cairns we were asked what our number was on our green wrist braclet. There was no number written on our brackets so we weren’t able to be counted for. There was over 200 people on board the Big Cat Green Island Reef Cruises Vessel. Reef Unlimited staff appeared sad. Skipper could lighten up on staff. An excellent trip for the time poor, however if you have time, one island at a time seems to be more clear manner of organisation.
The crew were amazing, however the islands were both very disappointing. How Nudey beach on Fitzroy Island was awarded any title is questionable. The water was lovely temperature and clear for snorkelling just wasn’t a lot to see as far as reef. Snorkelling on Green Island probably the worst we have done anywhere in the world. The “reef” is just an abundance of sea grass and at low tide is exposed for 100’s of metres from the shore line. We did manage to see a turtle and a few fish. The birds at the end of the jetty in the island is putrid! The faeces on the path and smell is nauseating.
Great way to see the reef and the islands in one day. Perfect experience for those who only have a few days in Cairns and surrounding areas. Bring some reef/water shoes for comfort walking on the sand. Highly recommend the glass bottom boat tours, especially if snorkelling conditions are not ideal.
Loved Fitzroy island but disappointed in the glass boat seen 5 fish and dirty water Then went to green island was beautiful but nothing to do because it was too cold to go in the water Slept on the beach Get to see lifesavers there to look out for the swimmers Take a wetsuit
Wallabies were great, lots of driving though so be prepared to be sitting a lot. Appreciate the door to door service
We stayed in Cane‘s right on Trinity Beach. Everything‘s with all with him walking distance to eat in the beach. But it’s best to have a car so that you can go to the rainforest and the sites. The birds are thousands. They’re everywhere and beautiful. They do make a strange call. The wallabies come right up to the balcony so friendly. The beach is not overcrowded it’s beautiful so peaceful where the rainforest meets the beach. People are very friendly. The weather was fantastic. Did get a little chilly at night so I recommend bringing a light jacket. But during the day, it’s fantastic. They do have construction there so that takes a bit of extra time when you’re traveling. In Queensland, the countryside you see a lot of little stands at people’s houses that they sell their produce or whatever they are selling that was nice. Driving on the opposite side was not a problem at all. The only thing I had to get used to was the turn signal on the opposite side. I would turn the windshield wipers on quite often ha ha. I would recommend where we stayed the time of year and that vacation to anybody who wanted to reset explore nature, see a lot of animals and beyond the beach. Is the best of both worlds.
