Interesting Walk

The guided walk provided an interesting perspective of Gikondo, one of Kigalis larger hills and neighborhoods. The walk started at Talking through art, where they provide women with jobs to create art pieces that can be purchased. The guide was knowledgeable as we walked through streets mixed with residential and markets. Note on the way back you climb the hill which requires some endurance!

Walking Tour through Gikondo

I had some free time before a group tour started (a couple days later) and Talking Through Art was next door to my hotel so I thought I'd go do the walking tour. I was met warmly and had coffee before starting the tour. The craftwork was amazing and I mentally picked a couple items out to buy after the tour. The walking tour was very informative and I enjoyed a freshly made samosa, a visit to a milk bar and sugarcane juice. Once back at the galley I purchased the bowls I had my eyes on. I really loved the huge weavings of bees but they were far too big for me to get. A couple days later I was back with our tour group and much to my delight there was a bowl & plate available with the bees. I snatched them up quickly and now are lovingly displayed on my wall. Thank you Petr, Omar, Placide & the women of TTA. I hope to return again next year.

Amazing place to discover Rwandan culture & life

TTA provides the perfect background for travelers and should definitely be on your travel list! Local women work on beautiful basket designs you won't see elsewhere in Kigali. My friend and I also attended the guided tour with Omar, which provided firsthand insight into the way of life of Rwandans. It was a unique and interesting tour! Most importantly, a good thing is supported as the organization helps disadvantaged women to have an income and education for their children.

The best full day activity in whole Kigali

We spent an amazing day at TTA. We started with a local tour of Gikondo led by Omar, who is a fantastic storyteller and shared so many interesting insights about the neighborhood. During the tour, we tried two types of milk at a local milk bar, sampled street food like samosas, and tasted sugarcane juice with ginger. Walking through the local market gave us a wonderful glimpse into daily life, and everyone we met was incredibly friendly. Afterward, we had a delicious lunch cooked by a local woman. We spent the afternoon weaving traditional baskets with the local women. It was such a rewarding experience and a day well spent. The atmosphere was wonderful!

Kigali through a local’s eyes

I really enjoyed this walking tour in Kigali with TTA. Our local guide Omar was the best we could have wished for. He connected small neighbourhood details to the bigger picture of Kigali and Rwanda’s history and culture. This way we could really feel the city. He was clearly a part of the community, people greeted him along the way, which made the experience feel authentic and personal. I came away with a much deeper understanding of Kigali and would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in meaningful local insight rather than just sightseeing.

The walking tour with TTA was a fantastic choice — the guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and we explored local neighborhoods, markets, and cultural spots I never would have found on my own. The tour was well organized and gave us a genuinely deeper understanding of the city. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to truly experience Kigali.” Hello Katerina and Aleš from Prague

Rewarding hike in Kigali’s Gikondo neighbourhood

We got a really good tour through the neighborhood together with a knowledgeable and friendly guide. Through him we could easily visit the streets beyond the “ordinary”, see regular shops and experience the pulse of the city. We were a bunch of friends and had a long series of questions that the guide was happy to answer. Highly recommend this hike, as well as a visit to their nice shop!

Wonderful tour. Beautiful Weaving

I thoroughly enjoyed the Talking Through Art walking tour. The tour allowed me to walk the roads where the people of Rwanda live and get a glimpse of the neighborhood and how the community works. My tour guide was a lovely young man who was knowledgeable of the area and curious about other cultures and communities. The weaving that was done by the local women was outstanding. I only wish I had more room in my suitcase! I highly recommend this tour.
