Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Ri Trek is an outstanding trek, which passes through the high valleys of Khumbu. Flying from Kathmandu to Lukla, we follow the Dudh Koshi valley up to the Sherpa capital of Namche, and then follow the quiet trail to Thame village in the Bhote Koshi valley. Descending to Khumjung, we are treated with the incredible views of Kantega and Thamserku and the Nuptse-Lhotse wall with Everest so realistic above. At Khumjung we rejoice below Khumbila Peak, home of the patron God of the Khumbu, before continuing up the Dudh Koshi valley to Gokyo’s alpine lakes. We ascend up to Gokyo Ri for a 360 degree panorama of snow-capped peaks in Everest Region. From Gokyo, we trek to Thagnak and then the next day cross Cho La pass, one of the toughest days of the trip as it involves steep glacier traverse through vertical icy rock surfaces. From Dzongla, we take lower route along the valley and rejoin the main trail to Everest Base Camp.

Amazing first trek through the Himalayas. Had an amazing guide bal Kumar who pointed out all the peaks and was very knowledgeable. Got to see stunning views. All around amazing one in a life time trek. Super happy we went through gokyo as well.

Great experience from start to finish! Our trip was 13 days, and the Explore Himalaya staff were easy to communicate with, organized, and professional throughout the entire experience. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, fun, caring, and easy to work with, which made each day of the trek a great experience. We trekked during the early season, so there were very few other trekkers on the trail. In some cases, we were the only two people staying at a lodge. This created a really peaceful and secluded trekking environment, although it also meant that some of the hotels, cafés, and bars were not yet open. I would say booking during the early season is best for those looking for a quieter, more secluded experience and don’t mind some businesses being closed. If you’d rather experience the full atmosphere of the trek, including the cafés, lodges, bars, and meeting other trekkers, I would recommend going during the height of the regular season. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend Explore Himalaya!. Side note: budget early as things get increasingly more expensive as you go higher so you’ll need to plan accordingly.

What an amazing experience we had during our 3 high pass trekking organized by Explore Himalaya. Everything was perfectly managed by the staff, starting from the top level accomodation in Kathmandu towards the flexibility provided to my friend and me during the entire journey. The guide and the porter, but also the local tour operator worked in a very professional way and I was suprised by the facility with which we were able to interact and communicate. Comparing our experience with other trekkers met during the travel, we discovered that our lodges were more confortable and we always get a cover, free purified water refill, the with biscuits every afternoon, great support, clear explanations, etc. I would say a big thanks to Bharat, Nir Kumar and An Kumar for making our dream an unforgettable reality.

We had the Trek of a life time. Bibek our Guide is a walking encyclopedia of the Himalaya. We where in the best if care. Our Porter Ram was also there every step of the way. We are average guys who took Chola pass for an extra trek. It was tough. Anuj and Trek Himalaya provided us with the support and guidance needed for a successful Trek. Always go with this company and Tiger as the chief guide. Wonderful experience. Guides and porters went above and beyond from morning tea and coffee in my room, to anticipating and providing for my specific dietary needs, to constantly looking out for me safety-wise. The only thing that marred a perfect trip was the tea hut we stayed in near EBC. Not the trekking company’s fault but this place was filthy, especially the one bathroom that served everyone staying there and the owner was unethical (I paid for electricity in my room from 6p-6a but the owner turned it off at 11p and refused to refund me the difference.) Would strongly recommend the trekking company use a different tea house at this stop. The rest of the tea houses were nice and comfortable and all had comforters. Will use this trekking company again next year (have booked with them 3 times now and happy each time).
