Itinerary
After meeting at our starting point we will head down campo de fiori to an old fashioned grocery store known as an "alimentari". We will visit a family owned cheese shop and sample some of Rome's best and least known cheeses. Learn about the production process and ageing methods, also we will taste a selection of top quality cured meats accompanied with organic Roman wine.
Here we will visit an icon of Roman street food, battered and fried cod fish, known commonly as "baccalà alla romana". Accompanied by local "Frascati" wine.
Pizza al taglio is an obligatory rite of passage for anyone visiting Rome. Taste the best Roman crust in Trastevere with seasonal toppings served with Italian beer.
Here we go to a Roman eatery called "trattoria", our guests will sample some traditional Roman pasta dishes and seasonal side dishes.
We will finish off in an artisan "gelateria" or ice cream shop. Try some of the classic flavors or go for the gourmet creations such as chocolate, Cuban rum and prunes or spicy citrus.

Mike our guide was very knowledgeable, totally fluent in English and Italian. We visited long established traditional family businesses, sampling their foods and wines. Mike provided additional depth and explained the history of the foods/wines and venues. 🥰
Mike our tour guide was great! Enjoyed the food and walk to family owned places. Wine and gelato are a must.
Tour was fabulous; went to places we wouldn’t have found and tasted authentic Rome food and wine with really informative historical perspective
This tour was like going around town with a good friend. We are pescatarian and Mike chose wonderful alternatives to meat dishes that still showcased the local cuisine. At each spot we went to, he talked a lot about the history of the location. My husband and I learned so much. When we come back to Rome, we would want to go on more tours with Mike.
This tour was everything we wanted and more. Mike was so friendly, outgoing and knowledgeable. We learned so much history about the incredible City of Rome, and ate even more then we expected. Mike went out of his way for us, at one point it didn’t even feel like your standard vacation tour, but more like we were just walking around Rome with an old friend who was local and sharing all the best spots with us. As I write this we’ve already gone back to 2 of the four spots he took us to. We still have 3 days left here in Rome and we plan on hitting the rest before we leave. We can’t thank Mike enough for guiding us through the most epic food and wine tour Rome had to offer. Do not think twice about booking this, you won’t be disappointed!!!
I’ve done this type of tour a number of times with different tour operators but Michele has been the BEST! He’s very knowledgeable, and so much fun. We loved meeting him and will be a repeat for years to come.
Mike Henry was an amazing tour guy. Very polite. Down to earth person. Highly recommend next time when doing the tour again
Michel was the best! He told us stories about the history of where we ate. He fed us traditional Roman food and wine which was so cool! He was accommodating of our schedule. He was so helpful, we could not recommend him more.
Thank you so much Maureen!
Host was awesome. Very knowledgeable about the local history. Food was great, and the shop owners were very happy to see us. Would definitely recommend.
My husband booked the Food tour of the Garbatella neighborhood on the Iter Tours website. Our guide was Michele, who is a proud "local" of the neighborhood (we walked by his apartment building during the tour). During the tour, we learned a TON about the history behind this not-very-touristy neighborhood. We also ate a lot of delicious food from locally owned restaurants. The tour started with a glass of prosecco and ended with scoops of gelato-how perfect is that? This was our second tour with Michele. We really appreciated how easy it was to book his tours and how reasonably the tours were priced---especially for the small size and high quality of the tours. We'd booked other Rome tours with larger tour companies and quickly became frustrated by their impersonal nature. We highly recommed Michele and Iter Tours for memorable "boutique" tours.
Thank you so much! It means the world to us when our clients find our tours memorable!
