We had a magnificent time with Nestor and German. We saw 67 species on the endemic birds tour and the walk into Santa Rita was beautiful. Nestor and German were experts at spotting and quickly identifying the species from their calls despite them moving quickly and told us how to distinguish from similar species. Nestor gave us fabulous views by setting up his scope and took amazong photos with his camera which he sent to us afterwards along with the full bird list. The diversity in bird life was incredible and would highly recommend to any keen birders. Highlight spots were the andean cock of the rock, andean motmot, red-ruffed fruitcrow and the white-booted racket-tail, in additional to so many other beautifully coloured tanagers, flycatcher and hummingbirds

Description
The Santa Rita Waterfall is a cattle farm in the process of sustainable transformation. Within the property there are secondary forests and two rivers which flow into the Quindío River. By visiting this reserve we can enjoy the natural beauty of the cloud forest around Salento and support its preservation and restoration. We'll follow a path from the open farmland into the forest, passing through tunnels, caves and waterfalls, while we look for target species from the Colombian such as Andes Andean Cock of the Rock (Rupicula peruvianus), Cauca Guan (Penelope perspicax), and Multicoloured Tanager (Chlorochrysa nitidissima).

We had a great time with birding enthusiast Juan Camilo leading our group. We saw nearly 50 species of birds, went on a beautiful hike, saw a small waterfall, and had a delicious breakfast of traditional Colombian foods prepared vegan (we requested vegan meals at the time of booking). Juan Camilo is super knowledgeable about endemic bird species and their calls, and he was so enthusiastic about teaching us and sharing resources after the tour was finished. His English was also fantastic, so my friend who did not speak Spanish was able to communicate easily. Binoculars were provided. Definitely sign up for this tour if you have any interest in viewing and learning more about Colombian bird species!
We had the most fabulous bird watching experience with Ivan. He was so knowledgeable, able to identify birds from so far away! The location was also beautiful so whether you like bird watching or just being in nature, we would highly recommend this trip.
Ivan was an amazing guide - he could recognise bird calls from miles away and took us directly to some rare and beautiful birds. The walk itself took us through some gorgeous Colombian landscapes. I can see how this activity can become a passionate lifestyle, and thanks to Ivan for being such a knowledgable and kind guide.
We did the tour with Ivan. He is a magnificent guide and a very nice person, he has great knowledge of birds of the area and the village. We visited several points in Salento and saw a lot of birds. We spent a very pleasant morning, an experience to repeat.
Wow! What an amazing hike and bird watching tour with Nestor. He is so kind and knowledgeable and happy to share his experience with us. Would definitely do again with him.
From start to finish, it was a great experience. The communication to book and organise the tour was excellent — Nestor provided all the necessary information and responded quickly to any questions I had. The bird watching tour itself was amazing. Ivan is an excellent and very enthusiastic guide who tailors the experience to your interests. He’s very knowledgeable and impressively quick at identifying birds by both sight and sound. He was always alert and attentive — even during breaks, he kept an eye and an ear out so we wouldn’t miss anything. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I would definitely join another tour with them. Highly recommended!
We had an incredible tour with Nestor and German! We saw the most species during this tour than any other birding tour in Colombia. Santa Rita was a beautiful reserve and we loved all the different environments it had to offer.
We were lucky enough to meet Nestor by chance on the street, and to end up doing the tour with him was a truly beautiful one. We went to Valle de la Carbonera (also known as Tochecito), on the other side of Salento, where is one of the densest, and unique, wax palm forests in the world. We spent all day with him and came to see more than 50 species of birds. Nestor could recognize them instantly, both from vista coml by singing, and knew their names in Spanish, local, English and scientific names without hesitation. Their knowledge of ornithology (and biology) from this region is really of a different level. He has enormous patience and does not stop until everyone gets a good look at each bird. In addition, as a native of the area, he has a deep understanding of local ecosystems — especially the mixed forest with wax palm — and knows a great deal about the history, culture and processes that the territory has experienced. There is also a rating that he really cares that tourism benefits the local community and not outside operators. It has a clear view on environmental, economic and cultural sustainability. A complete, authentic and highly recommended experience. Five stars falls short.
We had a wonderful experience! Ivan was a great guide - very friendly, astute at finding birds and making sure everyone in our group got to see them, and had fantastic English. Our group was a mix of folks who have lived in Colombia for a long time and those for whom this was a first trip, and we all thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Beautiful, relaxing setting and a great variety of birds!
