Explore Argentine culture through its cuisine in the comfort of a local's home. Taste mate and alfajores and learn to make empanadas from scratch, including the dough and filling. Roll up your sleeves for a hands-on experience! We'll allow for some time to get to know each other. You will have a chance to learn about the local culture and way of living, directly from a local. Sustainability and health are at the heart of what I do, and I care deeply about the details. I carefully source ingredients produced through sustainable, environmentally respectful practices that also protect our health and ensure dignified working conditions for the people behind them. The beef is grass-fed, the eggs come from free-range hens, the vegetables are seasonal, local, and organic, and the flour, oil, cheese, wine, and other staples are organic as well.

The cooking class took place in Shir's very beautiful home. We got a great insight into the Argentine mate culture, were able to learn with the help of the very personable cooking instructor how typical empanadas are made (from making the dough to preparing various fillings and the special way of sealing the dough pockets), and learned many interesting things about Argentina. A great experience and we can highly recommend it.
Thank you for such a thoughtful review, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the class. It was a real pleasure meeting you and your family!
My daughter and I has such a great time wit Shir! She is a great cook, fun, welcoming and we felt at ease with her the moment we met her. She can teach er class in Spanish or in English. Over the course of the morning we cooked different empanadas in a WONDERFUL kitchen. Unlike other schools where they only teach you how to assemble the empanadas, Shir taught us how to make the dough and the filling and we practiced how to make our own empanadas. We ate together at her table, with Argentinian wine. Shir taught us a lot about Argentinian customs, maté, pancakes. It was as though we were invited for lunch at a friend's house. We highly recommend it. We never felt rushed, everything is super clean, she is efficient and communication with her before the class was very quick and easy. She is very professional in her approach to cooking yet, so warm in making us feel at home. Thank you Shir :)
Thank you so much for your words Marie Helene! I'm really glad you felt at home - I enjoyed meeting you and Alexia. And thanks again for the present, it was very thoughtful of you.
We really enjoyed our time with Shir! We had wonderful conversation, delicious food, and so much fun! It was such a good way to get to know more about the culture. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much for your words Nissa! It was a pleasure meeting you and Laura!
An absolute delight of an experience! Shir opened up her home to me and shared with me the traditions of a nation. From trying mate to empanadas themselves. I ended up having a private class due to the others not being able to make it. I can't wait to take the techniques I learned during our time together and try them out at home!
Thank you so much Benjamin! It was a pleasure getting to know you. I'll be waiting eagerly for the pictures of your homemade empanadas :)
I had the most wonderful time learning to make empanadas during a personalized cooking class in this charming local home. The neighborhood itself is absolutely beautiful quiet, leafy, and full of character, and the home felt warm and welcoming from the moment I arrived. The host was fantastic! She was patient, encouraging, and clearly passionate about sharing her culture. The class was perfectly personalized, and I loved getting hands on with the dough, fillings, and folding techniques. Everything tasted incredible, and I left with new skills I can’t wait to try at home. What made the experience even richer was how she shared stories about local customs, including the traditions around yerba mate. It turned the cooking class into a genuine cultural immersion that went far beyond just food. If you’re looking for an authentic, heartfelt experience rather than a generic tourist activity, this is it. Highly recommend, and one of the highlights of my entire trip!
Thank you so much for the kind words Ryne! I'm glad you enjoyed the class. It was lovely meeting you and Patricia
The cooking class was geweest! Very friendly host and we did the workshop at her beautiful home! It was a great expertise and recommend it to everyone!
Such a lovely opportunity. Shirley is an excellent hostess and chef. This was such a delightful way to spend a few quiet hours learning about the culture and the food. I’m pretty confident that I can make the empanadas at home or for a party after this hands-on training. Truly a great experience!
Shir was wonderful. She opened up her home for us, made sure we were all comfortable. She had everything prepared and was very patient with all of us. Altogether there were 3 of us in the class. Shir spoke very well english and demonstrated all we needed to do before giving up the aprons and letting us to do all the cooking. She also introduced us to the ways of drinking the classic and popular Mate drink. I thought it was interesting when Shir said that Argentinians can be very relaxed about many things but not about their Mate drinking! She also introduced us to the very delicious Alfajores cookies with Dulce de Leche filling...yum! And at the end of the class she made homemade Flan for us....so delicious. So this class was much more then just an empanada cooking class....Shir introduced us to 1) baked delicious meat and veggie & cheese and onion empanadas 2) mate & alfajores 3) Homade flan 4) some Argentinian culture. I highly recommend this wonderful class.
Litterally have 0 complaints, this experience was exactly what we asked for and allowed us to enjoy some good mate, good food, good wine, and especially good company and laughs. Thanks again!
