Itinerary

Admission included30 min

(OPTIONAL) Start your day with an authentic taste of Crete’s countryside. This small, family-run honey museum and workshop invites you into the world of traditional Cretan beekeeping. Learn how honey was produced over centuries, see original tools and hives, and understand the importance of bees to local agriculture and culture. You’ll also enjoy tastings of pure local honey, raki infused with herbs, handmade creams and balms from beeswax, and other organic treats like carob syrup and herbal infusions. It's more than just a tasting — it's a cultural immersion into the natural flavors of Crete.

Admission included15 min

(OPTIONAL) These surreal, moon-like clay mounds rise unexpectedly from the Cretan landscape and make for a quick but unforgettable stop. The Komolithi formations are a natural phenomenon created by erosion over centuries, and they offer a striking visual contrast to the olive groves and hills surrounding them. Perfect for unique photography and a quiet moment in nature that few tourists get to experience.

180 min

(Main Highlight – Must Visit) Voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Elafonisi is the crown jewel of Crete’s southwest coast. Known for its dreamlike pink sand, shallow turquoise lagoon, and protected natural environment, it offers something for everyone. You can swim in crystal-clear waters, walk across the sandbar to the islet, explore sand dunes dotted with rare plants, or simply relax in paradise. Whether you're looking to unwind or explore, Elafonisi never disappoints — and yes, the pink sand is real.

60 min

(OPTIONAL) If you’d like to escape the crowds and discover a secluded beach paradise, we can head to Kedrodasos Beach, a hidden gem just a short drive from Elafonisi. With its soft white sand, cedar trees, and vivid blue waters, it feels untouched and wild. Alternatively, Aspri Limni (White Lake Beach) offers a quiet stretch of sand with striking rock formations, perfect for those seeking solitude and a moment to connect with nature. Due to their remote locations, these beaches are visited only by a handful of people.

Admission not included30 min

(OPTIONAL) Perched on a cliff overlooking the Libyan Sea, this 15th-century monastery offers stunning views and a rich connection to local legend. "Chrysoskalitissa" means "Golden Step" — and legend says one of its 90 steps is made of gold, visible only to the pure of heart. Inside, you’ll find Byzantine icons, a peaceful chapel, and insight into the deep Orthodox traditions of Crete. The location also provides some of the best panoramic views of the southwest coastline.

60 min

(OPTIONAL) Tucked into the lush mountains, Elos is one of Crete’s greenest and most charming villages. Known for its chestnut trees and serene atmosphere, it’s the perfect setting for a slow, soulful meal. Dine at a family-run taverna where food is prepared the old-fashioned way — in a wood-fired oven using local ingredients. Enjoy dishes like slow-roasted lamb, stuffed vegetables, homemade cheese, and seasonal greens, all accompanied by house wine, local beer, or raki. This is the kind of place where the food tastes like a warm embrace.

45 min

(OPTIONAL) Located along the dramatic Topolia Gorge, this cave offers both natural wonder and spiritual history. A short uphill walk takes you to the entrance, where inside you’ll find massive stalactites and stalagmites, and a small chapel carved into the cave wall, dedicated to Saint Sophia. The views over the gorge are breathtaking, and the peaceful energy of the site makes it a special end (or beginning) to your day. Though modest in size, it offers a unique blend of geology, culture, and scenic beauty.

LAn Unforgettable Day in Crete with Sakis :)

We had an amazing day visiting the Family Cretan Honey Experience, Elafonissi Beach, Chrysoskalitissa Monastery, and The Cave of Saint John the Hermit. A special thank you to our guide, Sakis, who made this experience even more memorable. He was incredibly kind, attentive, and knowledgeable throughout the entire tour. He made sure everyone was comfortable, shared interesting information about the places we visited, and was always willing to help with a smile. Thanks to Sakis, we were able to enjoy the beauty, history, and culture of Crete in a relaxed and enjoyable way. We truly appreciated his professionalism and warm hospitality. Highly recommended! Thank you, Sakis, for making our day so special. Cris , Robert and Duda

Wonderful Experience!

This experience was excellent. We were able to customise our experience to our needs and wants. Thannasi (Saki), the driver, was courteous, friendly and very competent in navigating the roads of Chania, Crete. We ended up going to a different tavern (in Balos) than the one noted in the experience, at Saki’s suggestion, and it didn’t disappoint. Ellafonisi beach itself was beautiful and we stayed as long as we wanted. The honey & olive oil tasting, although quick, was great. We went to a church (Agios Ioannis) which was situated within a cave which was beautiful. The views there were amazing from that location high up on mountain! This is definitely an experience worth considering. Being able to customise was the perfect combination. Thank you Saki :)

Operator response

Dear Desi, Thank you for such a thoughtful review. We're so pleased that Thannasi was able to shape the day around what you and your group wanted, right down to the tavern recommendation in Balos. Elafonissi really does deserve as much time as guests want to give it, and it's lovely to hear that the honey and olive oil tasting, along with the cave church of Agios Ioannis, added even more to the day. Thank you for choosing Crete Wanderer, and for recognizing how much flexibility can shape a great trip. We hope to see you again on a future visit to Crete. Warm regards, Leonidas Crete Wanderer

It’s one of the best tours we had in Crete. Jordan was really nice, knowledgeable and flexible with the time. Elafonissi is a must visit place. I’m saying this coming from a country with really great beaches.

Operator response

We're glad that Jordan's knowledge and flexibility with timing helped make your visit to Elafonissi such a highlight, especially coming from someone who already knows great beaches. That kind of feedback means a lot to us. Thank you for choosing Crete Wanderer, and we hope to welcome you back for another day in Crete soon. Warm regards, Leonidas Crete Wanderer

The pink beach isn’t pink...

The pink beach isn’t pink but is still GORGEOUS and was a highlight of our trip. Get there early in the morning and rent one of the umbrellas if you can. We were there before 10am and the beach was peaceful and had people there but still didn’t feel crowded. By the time we left at around 1 it was significantly busier and I was glad we had made the trip from chania even tho it required early morning wake up.

Beautiful beach & smooth ride

This was a great experience to get to the beach early & efficiently! We were able to snag beach chairs upon getting parked & Sakis (our driver) let us borrow a beach umbrella. He was a great driver & flexible when we wanted to change the agenda a bit based on wanting to get to the beach earlier than the crowds. We really enjoyed the cave & having lunch in Elos.

Day Trip from Chania to Elafonissi

This was an amazing day trip to Elafonissi! Sakis picked us up early as we had requested to get an early jump on the crowds at Elafonissi. This was a good idea (left Chania at 8:30am) since we got the last 4 sunbeds for rent at the beach! Elafonissi was incredibly crowded by the time we left. Sakis was an amazing, calm, professional driver and was a great conversationalist...telling us lots of interesting facts all the way to Elafonissi. We decided to stay at the beach a bit longer...we communicated easily with Sakis and he was there in a jiffy to pick us up... so skipped the caves on the way back to Chania, We stopped for lunch and a very old church in the village of Elos and made one more stop to taste honey at Stathakis family honey in the mountains on the way back to Chania. Sakis was so friendly and easy to talk to. We read that the drive to Elafonissi was easy from Chania...I did not think it was easy...lots of twisty, narrow mountain roads with tour buses coming the opposite way. We were very glad to be in the experienced hands of Sakis. Book this trip...a great day!

Operator response

Dear Kate, Thank you so much for this wonderful review. We're delighted that Sakis got you on the road early enough to beat the crowds and secure sunbeds at Elafonissi - that kind of local knowledge and planning is exactly what we aim to offer. It's also lovely to hear that the stop at the old church in Elos and the honey tasting at Stathakis family honey added such a memorable touch to your day. You're right that the mountain roads to Elafonissi can be narrow and winding, and we're glad you felt safe and well cared for with Sakis behind the wheel throughout. Thank you for choosing Crete Wanderer, and for taking the time to share such a detailed account of your day. We hope to welcome you back to Crete again soon. Warm regards, Leonidas Crete Wanderer

Excellent Tour to Elafonissi Beach & Surrounding Areas

Sarkis & Yordan were excellent drivers and guides- very knowledgeable, pleasant, and eager to help my family have a wonderful time. They were flexible and stopped at several sites for us to see and experience Crete. I have mobility issues and they even brought chairs & an umbrella for me at the beach- Very thoughtful! I enthusiastically recommend both of them for anyone interested in touring Crete and especially going to Elafonissi Beach.

Operator response

Thank you for recommending them both so enthusiastically, and for trusting Crete Wanderer with your family's time on the island. We hope to welcome you all back for another day of exploring Crete. Pink Beach and Old Town Chania

We wanted to see the pink beach and Old Town Chania on the same day because of driving distance so our travel agent found Crete Wanderer for us. It was exactly what we wanted. Our driver was great. He suggested stops along the way and told us interesting facts throughout the drive. He was also an excellent driver on very narrow roads! We were very pleased with the trip and would absolutely schedule again if in Crete! Leo was our guide.

Operator response

Dear Guest, Thank you for this lovely review. We're so glad that combining the pink sand of Elafonissi with an afternoon in Chania's Old Town worked out perfectly for your day, and that Leo made it even better with his local insights and safe, confident driving on those narrow roads. It means a lot that your travel agent trusted us to put the day together, and that it turned out to be exactly what you were hoping for. We'd love to welcome you back to Crete on a future visit. Warm regards, Leonidas Crete Wanderer

Best way to experience Crete!

Our entire eight hour trip with our driver Saki was spectacular! He was very knowledgeable, thoughtful and had a fantastic itinerary planned for us. The end goal of the trip was to see Elafonisi Beach. We were really thankful to have a local person driving us as some of the roads can be tricky to navigate. Sakis never tired of our constant questions and was extremely knowledge of the local history. He also customized the trip according to our interest. We were able to truly experience Crete and we can’t say enough great things about our trip. HIGHLY recommend taking a tour with this company and Sakis

Operator response

Dear Emily, Thank you so much for this fantastic review. We're thrilled that your eight-hour day with Sakis lived up to the trip to Elafonissi Beach you had planned. His local knowledge, patience with your questions, and willingness to tailor the day around your interests are exactly what we hope every guest experiences with us, and having a local behind the wheel on those tricky roads really does make all the difference. Thank you for recommending Crete Wanderer and Sakis so warmly, it means a great deal to us. Warm regards, Leonidas Crete Wanderer
