El Pueblo Coffee Tour Monteverde

We had a truly perfect coffee tour with Allan at El Pueblo! ☕️ Very informative, incredibly friendly, and conveyed with a lot of passion. We learned a lot about coffee and the entire production process. Absolutely recommended – thank you very much, Allan, for this great experience!

I couldn't recommend this tour enough! It was so lovely and authentic. My 8 year old, daughter and I took the tour and I originally had promised her a coffee, sugar AND chocolate tour. Eventhough there wasn't any chocolate tasting, we had an incredible time. Mayron, our tour guide was AWESOME! He has kids of his know and knows how to read a room. So he was great in how he managed the tour and competing needs. We got to drink sugar water and they taught my daughter how to cheers in Cost Rica! We tasted coffee and made our own tortillas. HIGHLY recommend this over other more commercial tours in the area.

You learn a lot about coffee production, varieties, the history of the town, a very pleasant tour and tasting of 3 coffees, sugarcane juice, and an appetizer.

My partner and I are visiting Costa Rica from England, and this coffee tour at El Pueblo Coffee was included as part of our package holiday. I’ll admit, after a long drive from La Fortuna to Monteverde, I wasn’t exactly excited. I’m not really a coffee drinker, and I honestly wasn’t convinced I even wanted to do a coffee tour. How wrong I was! The setting is absolutely beautiful, and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. We were lucky enough to have Ed as our guide, and he completely made the experience. Our group was small, which meant the tour felt personal and relaxed. Ed was incredibly knowledgeable, but what really stood out was his warmth, kindness, charisma and genuine passion. He has such a wonderful joie de vivre that was infectious, and hearing him briefly share some of the challenges he’d overcome in his own life made his positivity all the more inspiring. The tour is about so much more than coffee. Of course, we learned how coffee is grown and produced, but we also discovered so much about Costa Rican culture, history and the incredible variety of plants and fruit growing on the farm. One of my favourite parts was watching the traditional sugarcane juice being made and getting to taste it fresh. At the end, we sampled a range of coffees and even had the chance to make our own tortillas, which was great fun. I went into this tour thinking it would simply be something to tick off the itinerary. Instead, it became one of the highlights of our stay in Monteverde. Whether you’re a coffee enthusiast or someone like me who doesn’t even drink it, I would wholeheartedly recommend this experience. It’s informative, authentic, fun and beautifully presented—but above all, it’s Ed who makes it so special. Thank you for such a memorable experience!

We took advantage of our last afternoon in Monteverde to do a coffee tour. I think we are lucky to have chosen this tour and who we chose it with. To our surprise, we were picked up in a 4x4 by a very nice man who turned out to be Don Freddy, the owner of the farm. The service was incredible and very fun. Once at the farm, we were welcomed, and Dani gave us a tour where, without any rush, he explained and showed us everything. All the processes of the plant, the sugarcane, and the fruit trees, and why they are there. A very easy and practical route. Then we went to the drying area, where he showed us all the processes and types of drying. We made a short stop on the way where Don Freddy and another colleague (forgive me, I didn't write down your name) were waiting for us to taste freshly squeezed sugarcane juice from the mill (they let me do it) with a little lime. SPECTACULAR. We ate the sugarcane stalk, which is like candy, and the sugarcane syrup; the flavor was indescribable, sweet without being cloying. And I won't say any more... From there, we went to some spectacular views and to the area where the hopper and the roaster are! During the tasting, we kneaded some tortillas that they prepared for us later to enjoy with the coffees. I won't talk about the tasting, neither what we had nor how we had it; I'll leave it to all the users to experience it on their own. Then Don Freddy drove us back down to town, and we had to bother him again because we didn't think to buy the coffee from him at the farm, thinking there would be some in town. Important: buy the coffee there before leaving. Thank you all very much. Dani, your treatment, your attention, and your way of handling yourself are those of a true professional, and it shows that you like what you do. Don Freddy, thank you very much for everything, for welcoming us into your home, and for being able to taste your coffee with you while we sat at your table. A wonderful tour in a little corner of paradise. Our guide was fascinating and a humanly extraordinary person. From the seed to the preparation of the coffee, including the harvesting, the drying, the roasting, the Monteverde terroir, the auxiliary coffee crops like sugarcane, the life of the farm, from the workers to the owner… we learned a lot and in the most pleasant of ways: by walking around, by chatting with the guide and the owner met on the way, by tasting all the fruits of the farm (special mention for the sugarcane juice that we pressed). The final coffee was delicious. An experience not to be missed.

Our coffee tour with Daniel was outstanding! He was incredibly knowledgeable and explained the entire coffee-making process in a way that was both interesting and easy to understand. You could tell he was passionate about what he does, and he made the experience enjoyable from start to finish. The coffee tasting was absolutely amazing, with a great variety of flavors to try. If you’re visiting the area, this tour is a must, and I highly recommend taking it with him.
