Itinerary
We leave Edinburgh, crossing the iconic Forth Bridge, into the ancient “Kingdom of Fife”, passing through Aberdour before continuing into the East Neuk of Fife.
We stop in the town of Anstruther, home of the Scottish Fisheries Museum, then we travel through the villages of Pittenweem, Crail and St. Monans, once thriving fishing centres which were made prosperous by trade within the continent.
We arrive in the beautiful medieval town of St. Andrews in time for lunch. Here you can enjoy a walk around the town, where Prince William met Kate, home to the oldest university in Scotland, famous Cathedral (optional extra) and golf course. Enjoy approximately three hours of free time to explore its medieval buildings and wonderful cobbled streets in the centre, and have lunch and refreshments.
Heading homewards we travel across the Lomond hills to Falkland for a photo stop. The village was used as the setting for 1960s Inverness in the Outlander series.
Enjoy a fantastic photo stop at South Queenferry, offering spectacular views of the 3 bridges that cross the Forth.

This is a great trip. The guide was knowledgeable and told some great stories in addition to pointing out key sites and landmarks. My only complaint is that the coach that was used was not very comfortable. It was described as " a luxury coach," and it really was not. Otherwise, it was a great tour.
The bus was small and cramped. Would not recommend this tour because the bus is too small. Admission to castles should be included in the price of the tour.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy the tour and found the vehicle cramped. We use high-end Mercedes Sprinter vehicles for our tours, which are a popular choice for small-group touring. We take great pride in the quality and comfort of our vehicles and replace them approximately every three years, so our guests can enjoy a modern and premium experience. Regarding attraction admission, we generally keep entrance tickets separate from the tour price. This gives guests the flexibility to decide on the day whether they would like to enter each castle or attraction, rather than including the cost for everyone. We feel this keeps the overall tour price fair, particularly for guests who may prefer not to visit every attraction. We’re sorry the experience wasn’t quite what you were expecting, but we do appreciate you taking the time to share your comments.
Overall a very nice and recommendable day tour. Stewart, our guide, gave very informative explanations throughout. In between there was local music, which made the tour even more interesting. The stop in Anstruther could have lasted a bit longer for me.
Our guide/driver, Jim, was excellent. Jim was very professional and shared quite a bit of very interesting history and accomplishments of famous and not so famous Scotts. The trip itself was very nice. The scenery is beautiful and St. Andrews did not disappoint. Jim left no doubt in our minds that he is very proud to be from Scotland, and after spending some time here we can understand why. We also went on the Loch Ness tour the day before with David and we enjoyed that immensely.
Day trip to St Andrew’s from Edinburgh with a few charming stops along the way. The main event was St Andrew’s where got 3hrs to explore the University and the iconic Golf Course. A nice little bonus were the photo stops along the way. They were short but enough to get some photos and or a coffee. Special shout out to our guide Gregor (who wore a kilt) and our driver Peter. Both were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Highly recommend.
Thank you for your wonderful review! We're delighted you enjoyed your day in St Andrews and the scenic stops along the way. It's great to hear you had plenty of time to explore and make the most of your visit. We'll be sure to pass your kind words on to Gregor and Peter, who will be thrilled to know they helped make the experience so memorable. Thank you for recommending Timberbush
Claire was an outstanding historian whose background and experience enhanced the entire trip.. The stops along the way were timed perfectly.
Gary, our guide was excellent. The tour was good a full day. Got to see everything we wanted. The only thing keeping me from giving us a five star review is the bus was horrible. It was small and cramped. Our knees were up against the seat in front of us as were pretty much everybody else on the bus we were at the back of the bus and the air was also bad. We had to keep asking to raise the air and people next to us kept saying thank you because it was so hot in the back.
Beautiful tour through the countryside, stops in small villages, and of course the amazing St. Andrews and it's historic Golf Club with 3 hours to enjoy the city on your own. Jada was a terrific guide and also very skilled driver. Note: not a full sized luxury bus so it's a bit tight without WiFi and not much overhead storage, just a small space. I still highly recommend this tour and will repeat it next year with my wife!
The excursion was great. Some places were just in passing, like the place where Outlander was filmed (if you want to enter the castle and the gardens, you have to go specifically and there is a closing time at 4:30 PM with an extra cost), but the guide was a sweetheart, very kind, and took the time to explain everything. The university and the city of St. Andrews are simply incredible, one of the oldest in the entire United Kingdom (16th c. ) with a beautiful coastline and the oldest golf course in the world right by the sea. The whole tour is totally worth it.
We did the St Andrew’s Tour with Johnny. He was awesome! He told us a lot of interesting stories throughout the tour about the history of Scotland! It was amazing!
