The statue is a tribute to his crucial role in the nineteen thirteen Dublin Lockout, where he fought for the rights of unskilled workers to join unions.
He was an Irish physician, journalist, and politician who made a huge difference in Dublin’s history. The statue was erected in eighteen seventy-nine, just a few years after his passing.
