We start this very diverse tour at the picturesque village of De Rijp. Here, we start the day with a pleasant morning walk along a canal with beautiful traditional wooden houses. The monumental buildings in this village are all from the Dutch Golden Age, including the impressive town hall. This feels like being in an open-air museum, but it is real!
It’s a short drive from DE RIJP to SCHERMERHORN, because what is a visit to The Netherlands without seeing the iconic windmills that made water into land? You’re in for a treat, because SCHERMERHORN is the home of three of the oldest and most beautiful traditional Dutch windmills. One mill is now a museum and you can explore it from top to bottom.
We'll continue the tour by driving east. After crossing the Houtribdijk, a 26-kilometer-long dam, you'll have free time for lunch at Batavia Stad.
We also stop by at the charming fishing village of Urk, where you’ll stroll along the lighthouse and the old church by the sea. This place used to be an island before the man-made province of Flevoland was created.
Last but not least we pay a visit to Elburg. The fifteenth-century entrance gate leads you into a medieval town where time stood still. The list of monuments you’ll find here is impressive and even parts of the old city wall remain.

Our tour guide Adrian was fantastic. Really enjoyed learning a lot about the Netherlands reclaiming land from the sea, and all of the different cultures that surround this circular route that we took. Highly recommend.
It was an amazing experience full of history and we went to 5 different locations. Adrian was a gem, very polite, and friendly. He was full of interesting knowledge about the Netherlands. This trip made my visit here so great! Definitely recommend 😊
We enjoyed this trip and Simon’s explanations about the Netherlands origins so much. It is worthy to make the 5 stops to understand the essence of this country. Simon is the greatest tour guide ever! Thank you so much for this day.
The Discover the Netherlands tour guided by Simon was excellent and provided more than we expected. We wanted to see the impressive Dutch water management construction projects and the historic towns outside of Amsterdam and were very happy with the results. Simon is an experienced and professional guide who provided a lot of information, happily answered any question, and also knew when to talk with his customers and when to let the experience of seeing impressive water management projects and walking around historic towns sink in. We would happily go on other tours led by Simon.
Great samplers platter of the Netherlands. Highly recommend. Nice & very informative tour guide. Covers windmill history, enclosing dyke history, adorable historic and medieval towns and historic fishing village.
It’s a relaxing experience, not so much walking but you’ll see the best views and learn the history of each places we visit. Simon is an awesome guide, he didn’t pressure us with the time.
