I was traveling alone on a cruise and wanted to visit Gdansk rather than spend the entire port day on the ship. I was slightly concerned about navigating an unfamiliar city independently, so having transportation and a local guide was a good fit for me. The day was well organized from the beginning. Pickup from the cruise port was easy, and the journey into Gdansk was comfortable. The guide was knowledgeable but also approachable, so I could ask questions whenever something caught my interest. I especially enjoyed the Old Town. There is a lot to see in a relatively manageable area, and the guide helped put the different buildings and landmarks into context. After the guided part, I had some free time to explore independently and take photographs. The air-conditioned vehicle was a welcome break between walking, particularly after several hours outside. I also appreciated the attention to timing because returning to the ship on schedule is always in the back of your mind when you're on a cruise. Overall, it was a comfortable and enjoyable way to experience Gdansk during a short port visit.
From start to finish excellent experience
There were several of us traveling together, and we wanted to make the most of our limited time in Gdansk. This turned out to be a very convenient way to see the city without having to figure out transportation ourselves. The pickup from the cruise port was straightforward, and our guide gave us a nice introduction to Gdansk as we headed toward the Old Town. We particularly enjoyed the walking portion because we could actually take our time looking at the architecture, streets, and historic areas instead of simply seeing everything through a vehicle window. One thing we liked was having some free time. We could stop for coffee, take photos, browse a few shops, and just wander around without being with the guide every minute. The guide was happy to answer questions and gave us some interesting local background. The transportation was comfortable and the return to the port was handled well. For a group of friends on a cruise, this was a relaxed and practical way to spend our day ashore.
The van they sent could only accomodate 5 guests with the tour guide. My wife and I were relegated to a small car with no guide and a driver who did not speak English. We drove in silence and had no idea where we were nor what buildings or sites we were passing. Would not recommend this tour.
Please note that we use a variety of cars and vans for transfers from the port to the city, with capacities ranging from 2 to 22 passengers. Guide services are not provided during the transfers but are provided in the city where our guides meet guests, in full accordance with the “Additional Information” section of the tour description. From time to time, we receive complaints from guests who had to share their port transfer with fellow cruise passengers as booking shared tour they expected a private one. However, this is the first complaint we have received in 20 years from a couple who were provided with a private transfer for two people. Some travelers can certainly be puzzling. In any case, we strongly recommend basing your expectations on the published tour description, inclusions, and itinerary instead of your personal assumptions Safe travels!
