Visit the Delphi archeological site where the temple of Apollo was considered as 'the navel of the wold' in ancient Greece, a site that has played an extremely important role at the evolution and political situation of ancient Athens and the rest of Greece. Well organized with sufficient time at all stops. The overnight hotel and meals were fine. The guide was very knowledgeable and personable.
This was a rather expensive tour but sounded wonderful in the description but it was NOT at all as described! The tour guide was knowledgeable yet didn’t account for travelers and just got out of the bus and split. One of the guests fell getting out of the bus and several of us stopped momentarily to assist and ahe was long gone and we followed another group until we found our way. She had no idea 8 people were missing from her group. This was the very first stop. We spend at least 3 hours on the way at lunch on our own and two poorly chosen comfort stops ungodly crowded. We spend little time in Delphi. We booked the superior room and got a room the size of a closet-old and facing a back wall! Dinner was a buffet open an coughed on as our hotel was packed with Chinese guests! Breakfast the San. We are neither! The staff at the hotel was great and we found things to pay for that were not rampaged and spit upon! Hugely disappointing!! We spend less than 5 minutes at Thermopyly onto the next long bathroom break! Meteora was amazing but I would NOT recommend this tour again lol!!! I travel w tensely and use Viatour exclusively and this is not Viatour standard!!
Must Visit itinerary in Greece. Beautiful, scenic, historical, philosophical and legendary. A symphony of Art, beauty, nature and human coming together in one place. Our tour guide Anastasia is one of the best. Great knowledge, fluent eloquent English speaking guide with full of charm and humor. A great place to remember for birth of Orthodox Christianity and persecution of early Christian martyrs. Iconography is sight to watch and learn from early days as old as 16th century. A sight of mountain top monasteries is a testimony to early days human strength, courage and wisdom. Finally I learned few Greek words ‘Alamira’ meaning good morning amount others.
Felt a bit too fast. Would recommend getting a 3 day minimum for this kind of trip, since we spent all the time driving. The guide was awesome and our driver was the best
The tour was a nice one as expected. However, there was many bus changes on the first day, and some guide’s English is not one of the best; however, we were fine as far as carefully listen to the person. Except for those, everything was good as expected.
The locations are unique and indispensable. The Temple of Apollo impresses by its location and energy. Meteora has always been a dream to know and both the nature of the mountains and the overcoming of the religious make a magical place. The bad points of the tour would be the restaurants with medium meals with prices above average (a coffee 4€) and on the go stopped 6 buses at the same time. More than 1 hour waiting. Another disturbing factor was the pronunciation of the guide with a very Greek English to understand. On several occasions I started translating to other tourists, mostly Americans. That was the general complaint. I was lazy trying to understand.
Meteora is a place like no other and really should be seen. It is Astounding. Delphi is also unique and Historical. We should be told more details when signing up for this tour, though. I had no idea I would be on a bus for five hours; mapping it beforehand didn't tell us this. We should know in advance the actual itinerary--are we seeing Delphi first or second and in which town are we staying the night and will the monasteries require wearing skirts (sexist)? This is a LONG journey and people should be prepared. Also, the tour guides speak about Greek myths as if they are fact and do not provide interesting information. The closest return point to where we needed to be in Athens was literally on the side of the road, with our luggage and then we had to walk half a mile to our meeting spot. If we were not fit, we wouldn't have been able to manage. Good value but do provide more details in the future.
Wonderful day tour. Our driver Panos was very professional and friendly. He provided additional history of the area and we were able to see all the sites at a nice pace without feeling rushed. The lunch stop in Nafplio was delicious in a lovely location. Overall the tour was excellent.
Our guide to Delphi was not that great. Our young lay guide To Meteora was fantastic. The pace of the trip was about right.
We thoroughly enjoyed the trip . We started with Marianna as our guide up to Delphi and continued with Stavros to Thermopylae , Meteora and back to Athens. Both guides provided excellent historical and geographical background information. They talked in a clear and smooth language and answered questions in a professional way, a real asset to the company. The drivers were very careful and the trip was safe and comfortable. The hotel where we stayed overnight at Kastraki/Kalambaka was of a very high standard and the staff very polite. We absolutely recommend this trip which ran in a punctual and well organized manner.
