Customize Your Own Private Tour

First let me say that Ketchikan Expeditions, LLC is a first class tour company that cares about it's customers! They went above & beyond for our Ketchikan tour! We ended up on a private tour of Ketchikan with our tour guide, Juan. Juans' knowledge of all things Ketchikan was amazing! He really knew Ketchikan & took us to some unique places! But what made Juans tour so incredible was his genuine love for Ketchikan; the town, the people, the wildlife! Seeing Ketchikan thru Juans eyes made his tour our favorite of our whole Alaskan trip! We have an autistic adult son that does not do well in crowds and around babies. We booked directly with Ketchikan Expeditions for a private tour in a small bus/larger van. It was a very good choice. Amanda was our host. She was very knowledgeable and caring, taking time to explain all of the wonderful things we were seeing. She was also funny and even sang for us (great singer as well)! We went to the eagle sanctuary and saw one black bear and many, many eagles. Amanda also showed us a large aerie (nest) near the Kiwanis Park--another really cool area. The waterfall was very picturesque as well. Amanda is an excellent guide and if/when we return with our friends in a couple of years, she will definitely be on the top of our list to contact! Thanks to both Amanda and her company!

Incredible experience and well worth the money for a family of 5. We booked with Tim and he was super easy to deal with and hooked us up with a van and a driver to take us around the island and let us experience a few things in the limited amount of time we had in Ketchikan. Juan, our driver was awesome and very efficient and he was able to make sure we knocked off our priority to-do list. Eating the best Salmon, watching Salmon, seeing Bears in the wild, waterfall, Eagles, Starfish, and enjoying some beach time among other things. Thank you for a quick and insightful visit and making the process super easy, fun, and an overall great experience! 10/10 would do again and you should too!

This was a great experience! Juan was truly a valuable guide; he anticipated everything we needed from breaks to local snack options like smoked salmon, jellies and cookies. He even took us to a great store for needed rain gear that helped our excursion be warm and comfortable. His van was roomy and comfortable, complete with bottled water. Juan got us to the right spot to see our first black bear in the wild. We saw leaping salmon in a cove and downtown Ketchikan we learned and saw the thousands of salmon and the ladder system. We saw bald eagles and learned much about the history of the area. Juan was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and it brought a unique perspective to our experience. We highly recommend Juan and this company; it was a great value and the memories will last forever!

I rarely write reviews, but extraordinary service deserves recognition. From the moment Juan of Ketchikan Expeditions picked us up at the cruise terminal, he was charming, easy-going, knowledgeable, and remarkably attentive—often knowing what we needed before we said it. When two people needed waterproof shoes, Juan found an affordable store and had us back on the road in under ten minutes. After a stop at beautiful Rainbow Falls, Juan got us to Herring Cove before the crowds, where we saw a black bear. As it moved along a residential road and back toward the creek, Juan kept repositioning us for the best views. One quiet gesture says everything about Juan. While I watched for the bear in the rain, I realized Juan was beside me holding an umbrella over my head. I had not asked—he simply noticed. That thoughtfulness cannot be taught from a tour script. Nearby, salmon leaped from the water like popcorn. Juan pointed out fresh bear tracks along the shore and a bald eagle perched high in a tree. At the nearby shop, he made sure we sampled delicious local smoked salmon, local jams and jellies, and spruce-tip honey. Our day also included the salmon ladder, historic Creek Street and Married Man’s Trail, the Totem Heritage Center, Totem Bight, and Ward Creek Trail in the Tongass rainforest. Standing on a wooden deck above the rushing whitewater was another highlight. We even enjoyed Pollo Loco pizza at Fat Stan’s before returning safely to our ship. Juan used every minute, yet nothing felt rushed. This was never cookie-cutter. He understood what mattered to us and shaped the day around the experience we hoped to have. He turned a rainy port day into one of the most personal and memorable experiences of all our travels—not just this Alaska cruise. Juan is a special person, and Ketchikan Expeditions is a special company. They understand that the best tours are not about checking off sights; they make people feel seen, cared for, and genuinely connected to a place. If you want to truly experience Ketchikan, ask for Juan and book with Ketchikan Expeditions. We would choose them again without hesitation and cannot recommend them highly enough.

What an amazing day we had! Our guide Juan was an absolute blast, extremely informative and made us feel really welcome. He asked what we wanted to do and then did his absolute best to give us the tour we wanted. Could not recommend this tour any higher, and thank you Juan for an incredible day!

We took the trip with Juan, and we had an amazing time. He was incredibly friendly and forthcoming. We went to see bears, salmon and sea life, and he made sure we would get the most out of every single one of our stops.

We bumped into Tim very shortly after disembarkment. He wasn’t pushy; just offered their services. Because there were 6 in our group, he offered us a deal on a private excursion. Amanda was our driver, and she was outstanding! She was friendly, genuine, and knowledgeable. She used a headset so we could easily hear her. She chatted about local places, people, and history. She adapted our tour to what we wanted, with a lot of input to guide us. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any bears, but she showed us several eagle nests (one with an eaglet) and a waterfall. She was quick to hop out and help us in and out of the van, which was roomy and comfortable. We definitely enjoyed our 3 hours with Amanda! Janet

Juan customized the day for us. Juan has an informative yet easy manner. We saw bear, starfish, beautiful scenery. It was the highlight of our cruise. It was wonderful to be with a year round local. The van was clean and very comfortable.
