This review comes down to a mismatch in expectations. Some people book this because it’s priced much lower than a traditional guided tour, then expect someone physically with them throughout. That’s not how this experience works. I’m a remote host, interacting with you on WhatsApp. We start with a phone powwow, then I stay connected and guide you in real time as you work through the hunt. You’re out exploring Hanalei while I’m in your pocket—but you have to make it happen. This isn’t a back-of-the-bus tourist activity. In this case, only one clue was attempted and communication stopped, even though I reached out multiple times by phone and WhatsApp. There are about 20 clues, and each one builds the experience, so this didn’t come close to reflecting what the hunt offers. I would agree—if you only do one clue, it will not be a good value. Show up and plan to fully engage for the best experience. This is designed for people who want to actively participate—solving, exploring, and engaging along the way. If you’re looking for a fully in-person guided tour, this won’t match what you’re expecting.
This is a 2 hr scavenger hunt like no other. The tour operator communicated with us via WhatsApp messaging and encouraged our group to split into teams and come up with a team name - the competition began. We used an app to randoming sort our family of 6 (plus a baby) into 2 groups. As it turned out, the extroverts in our family were grouped together giving them a decided advantage. Tara walked us through the concept of the hunt - the goal is to learn some new things about Hanalei (where our hunt was happening), and Hawai'i in general. We all had a lot of fun searching out locations, deciding what we would do for certain challenges, meeting locals and finding out a lot of new and interesting things about the area and the Hawaiian culture. A day later and we're still talking about some of the characters we met and how we approached different challenges. Would highly recommend doing this activity with a group of friends or family; breaking up into teams was a great idea! Thanks Tara for the fun experience!

So looking for things to do we ran across this excursion. We had no preconceived expectations and had an absolute blast. Tara was an awesome host! Very communicative and upbeat. We were given a list of 18 clues and a meeting point. We worked our way through the clues, met some unique folks, learned some new cultural things. It did take us a bit to get through the clues and we had to surrender but I highly recommend this excursion ! What a a bargain price wise but fun wise was a treat!!
This scavenger hunt was a blast. We had two couples on it. What a great way to better see the things that made Hanalei the community that it is today. A mix of history culture and tourism combined all in a couple of hours. We love doing walking tours wherever we go and Cats Meow will be in the top of our list wherever available. So think of a regular scavenger hunt and throw that out of the window! This is a brand new version of getting to know the city, through a very unique set of tasks. The best part? Working as a team together. Discovering interesting new things about the island and the local people. Discovering strengths of each team member. Sharing our experiences with everyone once the game had ended. All the laughter and smiles that followed!!

I went on the scavenger hunt with my 10-year-old daughter and we both had an amazing time. It is great for interacting with the locals, having an adventure and experiencing the fun of Hanalei! We learned about the history and culture of Hanalei and Kauai and stretched our boundaries. Tara shared her own stories and added to the experience with interesting anecdotes. We highly recommend this unique way to discover a new place!
