Se Velha De Coimbra
The Old Cathedral has a fortress-like appearance and was built in the 12th century. It also has a very strong relationship with the university’s academic traditions.
Museu Nacional de Machado de Castro
The history of the Machado de Castro museum goes all the way back to the Roman Empire. Often overlooked by tourists, this is one of the best views in the city.
Se Nova Catedral de Coimbra
The New Cathedral combines Baroque and Mannerist styles in a single building. This space was a Jesuit college before being converted into a cathedral.
This is the oldest university in the country and one of the oldest in Europe. You can learn more about the academic traditions and the evolution of this space since the occupation by the Muslims. With the help of some photos, you’ll find out what you can find inside and tips on visiting.
Jardim Botanico

A brilliant tour
A brilliant tour of Coimbra with José, a perfect mix of history, humour and local recommendations from a passionate (but not overbearing) guide. Wish I had booked it earlier on in my time in Coimbra. The handy guide produced by José is a nice added extra.

The 1 tour you cannot miss... with José!
On a scale of 1 to 10, José our tour guide, was an 11 !!! Incredible insight, passion and love for his city of Coimbra and us, his group, making sure we learned as much as possible and experienced everything... which is impossible, however the 2 1/2 hours were filled by José and it went by too quickly! 😘

A tour that takes you off the beaten track
What a wonderful experience with Jose , our tour guide. With just the right amount of history and real experience and fun. It opened up the authentic side of Coimbra and felt really special and extended beyond the traditional tourist landmarks. Could not have enjoyed it more and strongly recommend this tour to get an all rounded experience and feel for this charming University town with UNESCO credentials.

Highly recommended!
A very friendly person with interesting stories about both the history and the present. It was also nice that we did not just see tourist hotspots on the tour! The invitation for a coffee as well as the written tips were the icing on the cake. Thank you! Recommendation!!!

Very good walking tour
Very informative 4km walking tour, including climbing up hill to the university. No access to inside buildings as that is a separate tour. We covered a lot of the town and points of interest.
