All your equipment and supplies are carried by porters and a cook prepares all your meals. Unlike the Marangu Route where you sleep in huts, on the Machame you sleep in tents (tents are included), and the porters will pitch your tent for you. Meals are served in a dinner tent or on a blanket outside. This makes the Machame, which is referred to as the "Whiskey Route," better suited to more adventurous hikers, and it also rewards you with better views than other Routes. From late afternoon sunsets at Shira, to the misty revelations of Kibo's great Barranco Wall, the Machame Route offers the spunky hiker a continuous scenic slide show.

The best tour guides in the business.
I had a wonderful experience booking my trip through Tanzania Zara Adventures via TourCompass, but the true stars of the journey were our incredible guides, Hemedi Ngaina and Saidi Ngaina, along with their exceptional porter team.
As a team of three individuals of varying ages, abilities, and zero prior high-altitude climbing experience, successfully completing a 6-day climb felt like a monumental goal. Hemedi and Saidi’s decades of combined experience and deep technical skill were evident every single day.
Their pacing, attentive care, and encouragement ensured that every one of us reached the summit safely and comfortably.
Without this father-son duo and their hardworking porters, our trip would not have been the complete success it was.

Machame 6 day
Excellent experience I was solo and put with two others, Saidi and medi were brilliant guides and did everything to ensure that we made it to the top, the food was surprisingly good and better than the hotel. I would highly recommend.

Kili experience
My friend Alice and I started our Kilimanjaro adventure with Zara Tours on September 22nd, and it was truly an unforgettable experience!
A huge thank you to our amazing guides, Joseph and Phillip, who supported, encouraged, and took care of us every step of the way. We also had a wonderful chef and waiter who made us feel incredibly well cared for, even high up on the mountain.
