Clear Kayaks on BioBay

I would say spend a little extra money and book with another because the excursion was canceled, and there was no communication around it being canceled we sat there and waited. I even reached out to the phone number on file by calling and texting via WhatsApp and did not get any single response, very unprofessional in my opinion to not even respond to any messages and or even letting us know that it was canceled. I reached out to Tripadvisor to see if they could reach out to the tour guide, and they looked into it further and saw that it was canceled due to not enough bookings which again I understand can happen, but there was no communication around it and we were just standing around not getting a response. I did read reviews before booking and there were some that weren’t great but some that were great so I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but if you want, my opinion, don’t do it.

Vieques is beautiful, and after a fun day on the island, my husband and I were excited for this excursion. The pickup location was confusing because several companies offer nighttime tours. Raul was really nice, and the experience is one my husband and I laugh about to this day. The water smelled; we had to walk through deep mud to get into the kayak. About 5 min into paddling in the dark, I thought to myself What am I doing? Finally arriving at the middle of the bay, we get a science lesson, and then Raul spins his hand in the water, which makes it glow. Once he stops moving his hand, the glow stops. I'm sharing this to advise: save your money. This was underwhelming, but looking back, it is a good memory for us on our honeymoon, only because we got ourselves out into the smelly water at night to see a few seconds of glowing water.

Meeting spot to start the trip is not well described. Led to delays in people arriving. Van to go the the bio bay was parked on an anthill. We were all bitten getting in. Entrance to bio bay is a deeply mudded mess. After that, the trip was good. For best experiences, avoid booking trips close to recent rainstorms and make sure the moon isn't bright.

OK, I would like to say first of all the company was fine and our guide Ramon was great, knowledgeable, and helpful. But the experience was very underwhelming. We had to wade through very stinky muck and get bit by mosquitoes to then kayak out to the bay where the bioluminescence was very dim. You had to use a tarp, three canoes at a time, which was very sweaty and smelly, and then you could see faint, glowing when you waved your hands in the water. There was no glowing under the canoes. Very disappointing for the price and the advertised bright bio luminescence. Don’t waste your time or your money.

The tour guide cramped us all into one van when 2 vans were needed. The guide not very good. Bay area smelled so bad and had to step through muddy water to get into kayak. Not worry money. Don’t use this tour

There was very old van with no ac and he had 16 people all sit into the 1 van like sardines and people were sitting half on seat and some Sitting on lap to accommodate everyone in 1 van. He didn’t put ac and it was hot. Took us to bay and it smelled so bad and the water where we entered the kayak was stagnant. Not much bio illumination was noted. I have used viator before and enjoyed my trips. This was the worst experience we had. Not worth to take ferry to island for that.

Our guide was great, very talkative, and also gave space to have your own conversations and fun. I’ve done clear and non clear kayaks, I 100% recommend the clear one.

Super fun experience. Our guide was friendly, funny, and knowledgeable on the science and history of the bioluminescence. The clear kayaks were a great choice. It looked like stars under the kayaks. Would definitely recommend going around the New Moon it was pitch black and very easy to see the bioluminescence.

Our reservation to get picked up (meeting point) was at 9:00pm (as said on this app/our tickets), we would’ve gotten there at 8:55pm, which would have been 5 minutes early but weren’t given the chance to do so before they called me at 8:51 to inform us that our reservation was moved to 10:00pm instead, since they decided to leave without us prior to our reservation time despite being early and paying $340 for 5 people.

We have done this experience in the past twice and couldn’t wait to bring our family to do it with us again . We were a party of 8 (4 adults, 1 teen, 3 kids). Our guide Ramon just briefly explained how to paddle to the group and once we were on the bay, he took off without explaining how long we were going for. We paddled against the wind for about 20 min (at least we’re healthy and have done it before so were able to make it). He then stopped and talked about the bio for like 5 min, so soft we couldn’t really hear much. The guide behind us didn’t even have a light so it was hard to keep track of the group. At least the bioluminescence was good and the paddling back was easy as it was going with the wind. Wouldn’t recommend to do it with this company there are others with better service and experience.
