Excellent Tour to Chingaza National Park

Excellent guided tour of Chingaza Siecha National Park/Cuchillas Lakes trek. Tour guide lived in the area and was excellent: very knowledgable about the páramo ecosystem and flora. Good value, small group (only 3 of us). Excellent logistics meeting us at Parque de la 93, good driver to Chingaza.

Operator response

Thank you for the excellent review! We’re so glad you enjoyed the Siecha Lagoons and had a positive experience with both the tour and logistics. Having a guide who grew up in the area really brings another level of connection to the experience, and we’re happy to hear you appreciated the insights into the páramo ecosystem and native flora along the trail. Chingaza is such a unique and important natural area, and it’s always rewarding to share it with visitors. We’re also pleased that the small group setting and transportation from Parque de la 93 helped make the day comfortable and seamless from start to finish. Thanks again for joining us, and we hope your memories of the lakes, mountains, and páramo landscapes stay with you for a long time!

We had the best time!

My husband and I had so much fun for the Chingaza Siecha and Cuchillas Lakes Trek. A must-do and worth every penny. Andres and Hector were very knowledgeable about the flora, fauna and history. We’ll definitely be back for another tour!

Great tour (although the booking process was stressful)

The tour was wonderful. I got lucky with the weather - it was so clear the entire trial. I saw a lot of flowers, plants, and of course the lake. My guide Diego was passionate about the park, super knowledgeable, and helped me taking pictures as I was a solo traveler. The one thing to note was the booking process, I signed up for a single person joining a group trip, but no one else signed up and it became a private tour. The night before the tour, the operator initially told me straight up to pay extra 40 dollars because this became a private tour, without offering much explanation or a opportunity to cancel the tour. I was pretty startled and grew quite suspicious. I asked to cancel the trip right away, because I was told last minute to pay extra without context. The operator got back to me the next morning, explaining how they couldn’t run the tour on a loss, and I do have the option to cancel. I ended up going on the tour, which was amazing, but I do wish the booking process a bit more clear.

Operator response

Thank you for your review of our services! We are delighted that you had a good time on our tour. With regards to the booking process, you first requested a group tour on the 14th which we confirmed, but then booked for the 13th as a single traveler joining a group. However there was nobody else signed up for it that day. We waited until the closing of the 12th for new sign ups but it ended up being a private tour just for you. We then asked for the additional payment to run the private tour as posted on our booking page, so it is surprising that our payment request was not expected since all the pricing is clearly laid out on the booking page. We are unable to take clients on a private tour for the cost of a group tour when they book as single travelers. When you book our tours we ask to please verify availability if you want to join a group tour. Most of our single travelers have no problem covering the private tour price if they end up going by themselves as the price we charge is very competitive.

A must-do for nature lovers

This was an absolutely magical hike, I couldn't recommend it more. While the trip to get to the park from Bogota was quite long, our guides made it very easy and seamless. Once at the park, the guides also helped with our check-in with the park rangers, and assisted us with instructions. During the hike, our guide gave us a lot of information about the unique ecosystem that is the paramo, as well as the history of the native people who once used this area for their cultural practices. The views were stunning, and the terrain was unlike any I have ever seen. It's definitely tiring, and be sure that you acclimate to the altitude prior to the hike, but it's absolutely worth it!

Operator response

Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re thrilled to hear that you found the hike truly magical and that the journey from Bogotá felt easy and well supported by our guides. The landscapes really are one of a kind, and we’re so happy they left a strong impression on you. Thank you as well for mentioning the altitude and physical effort - your advice will be very helpful for future travelers.

Special Ecosystem not to be missed

The trek to Chingaza Lakes with guide Diego and driver Hector made for a great and unique outdoor experience of the Andes in Colombia! I learned a lot about the paramo and its unique flora creating a very special ecosystem. Diego is incredibly knowledgeable, very engaging and helpful with suggestions also provided from my end. Above all, I was blessed with a glorious day! highly recommend!

Operator response

Avoid the rainy season for this paremo

Incredible environment. Camilo was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and highly optimistic. I would not recommend going in May because of the weather and small chance of seeing the lagoons. It was very wet, muddy and multiple people in my group had wet shoes/fell because of the mud. If you go during rainy season, I suggest renting the tall rubber boots, they make it much easier. The hike we went on wasn't too difficult if the elevation isn't a problem for you and 6km round trip.

Operator response

Hi, thank you for your accurate review. Indeed May is typically a wet month in the mountaintops with limited visibility as explained in the activity details. Many people do enjoy it given they bring the right gear and are used to high elevation trekking. We do provide rubber boots for rent if required but more often than none, hikers prefer to get their own shoes wet which is surprising to us. If you want open skies in Chingaza, Jan, Feb and March are your months to hike. Any other month is a mixture of rain, wind and sunshine. The most difficult months weather-wise are July and August. We are happy you joined us and completed the trail without issues!

Totally worth it!

Our guide was incredible! He knew so much about the area’s history, flora, and fauna. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and made the experience memorable. He also spoke great English since I am still learning Spanish. The logistics were very easy (pick up at hotel exactly on time) and the team was very responsive leading up to the tour. An amazing experience!

Operator response

We are thankful to hear you had a great time with us. Punctuality and great customer service are very important to us and we always do our best to make sure our visitors have a wonderful experience in Colombia.

Amazing hike to Chingaza Siecha Lakes

The hike and scenery were stunning. Our guides Hector (ES) and Cesar (EN) were very good, they explained a lot, were enthusiastic and we had nice conversations. Hector was also an exceptional car driver! ;) The tour was well organised, communication via Whatsapp before and after the tour. Furthermore, they provide necessary gear such as boots and hats. Only negative point: we thought the price was quite high.
