Hidden Chicago
Took the Chicago Pedway Tour with Heath and really enjoyed it! I had no idea the underground pedestrian system was so extensive. Heath was knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the Pedway. It’s a fun, different way to see Chicago, especially if you want to escape the weather or see the Loop from a totally new angle. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something off the beaten path!

Interesting tour but not what you expect
This isn’t a mobster or closed metro tunnel tour. Despite this it was very interesting. Minimal bathroom breaks.
Operator response
Thanks for your feedback! To be clear, we don't advertise this in any way as a "mobster or closed metro tunnel tour." On this tour, we teach people what the Chicago Pedway is, how to use it (especially to avoid bad weather!), and access some cool interiors of buildings directly from it. The Pedway system post-dates the 1920s/30s "mobsters" by 20-30 years. Any tour that says they're going to take you into "mobster tunnels" is hoping you'll fall for a touristy gimmick, unfortunately, and not based in truth. I'm glad you found our tour interesting despite expecting other stuff!

Great tour
I took the “Chicago's Underground Pedway & Other Secrets of the Loop” tour, and I really enjoyed it.
The guide was great. He is an architect who has actually worked on the design of several Chicago skyscrapers. He was very passionate, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor.
I would definitely recommend it.

Fascinating experience!
Spencer was an incredible guide. I have lived in Chicago for 35 years and was not aware of the pedway. Even in the buildings that I was aware of, I learned so many new facts and interesting tidbits. Highly recommended!

I feel like this is...
I feel like this is better suited for local commuters rather than tourists. Though learning about the existence of the Pedway was interesting, I thought the tour would cover more Chicago history and architectural significance. Most of the tour was spent on pedway maps and how to navigate a system that is not easily navigable.

Considering? …Just Do It!
What a great experience this walk through parts of Chicago’s Pedway turned out to be. Adam, our guide, was welcoming, professional, informative, and occasionally funny. His knowledge & love of the city & buildings was impressive, even those that weren’t on this tour. Highly recommended.

Very disappointed with the walk
Hardly walked. Thought the Pedway was longer. Stood and talked for most of the walk. Guide was fudging on Facts about the city. People who live in the City knew the truth, but out of state people did not.
Operator response
Hi Ardell, thank you for sharing your perspective. We spoke with Adam about your tour this past weekend, and he distinctly remembers the experience.
Here's the thing. Guests are welcome to bring their own knowledge and enthusiasm to a Chicago tour; however, repeatedly interrupting the guide to attempt to correct him, debate details, or present personal beliefs as fact makes it difficult to maintain the tour’s pace and takes away from the experience of the rest of the group. That was unfortunately the issue here.
More importantly, the suggestion that Adam was “fudging facts" is simply untrue and, frankly, pretty insulting. Adam has more than 20 years of experience guiding visitors through Chicago on foot, by bus, and by boat, and he is exceptionally well-informed, carefully researched, and candid about the rare occasion when a detail needs additional verification. He told me of one instance where you argued with him about the stained-glass windows formerly at Navy Pier, insisting they were ALL Tiffany windows. Adam’s information was accurate, and your previously held belief was not.
A tour is an opportunity for everyone—including longtime Chicagoans—to discover something new. It works best when guests allow the guide to lead with their expertise and remain open to information that may differ from what they previously believed.
Regarding the length, this tour is just over 1.5 miles at a comfortable pace. We feel that this is the perfect length for most guests.
