Charleston Haunted Horse and Carriage Evening Tour

Description
As the sun sets on Charleston, the city's history takes a darker turn. Board your carriage at the historic Big Red Barn for an evening ride through the old walled city, where your guide shares centuries of ghost stories, hauntings, and unsolved mysteries tied to the churches, graveyards, and cobblestone streets you'll pass along the way. It's the same trusted carriage experience Palmetto Carriage Works has offered for over 50 years — just after dark, when Charleston's past feels a little closer. Evening departures make this a cooler, more atmospheric way to see the city, with local ghost lore and haunted history told by guides from Charleston's oldest carriage company. You'll ride with the same well-cared-for horses and certified guides as our daytime tours, making it a great choice for couples, small groups, and anyone who loves a good ghost story.

Itinerary
Join us as we explore some of the more sinister stories in Charleston’s history dating back to the early 19th century. This 45 minute tour covers parts of Downtown Charleston including the Circular Church graveyard, the Four Corners of Law, the Old Exchange building and Provost Dungeon, and more.
Your carriage ride will take you past the famed St. Philips Church, the oldest congregation in the U.S. south of Virginia. Just off of the Market on Church Street, this beautiful landmark is one not to miss.
Our Barn is located just off of the Charleston City Market. You will meet your certified tour guide here and then you will depart on your hour-long horse or mule-drawn carriage tour. The carriage will go through the City gate at the market where the tour guide is assigned a tour route. You will see about 30 blocks of the historic district which will include beautiful architecture, churches, buildings, gardens and more. The tour returns to the Big Red Barn.
Pass by the famed U.S. Custom House in Charleston, S.C. Construction began on this iconic building in 1852 but was halted before completion due to the possibility of South Carolina succeeding from the Union. The building was finally finished in 1879.
Learn about the many mysterious hauntings in and around this historic Charleston landmark. Not only will you hear about the history of the church itself which dates back to 1681, you'll also have the opportunity to learn about the church's graveyard and the many spooky stories surrounding it.
Completed in 1731, this is the only surviving public building in South Carolina. Used to store gun powder during the Revolutionary War and now used as a museum, there are plenty of stories, haunted and historic, to learn while passing by.

We enjoyed the ride and history that was presented, but to call it a haunted tour is a little exaggerated. This was our second tour and the daytime was better to us.

This was a fun unique activity to do one evening in Charleston. It was not scary at all - I had hoped it would be a bit more "haunted".

Be ready for the aromatherapy treatment of horse manure. Some people will comment and criticize you for partaking in this event because they believe the horses are mistreated. That is false. The horse are well taken cared of.
