We booked a one hour bike rental for $6.50 each instead of the outrageous $24/hr a rental at the entrance to Central Park. It is the same bike company, just one block south of the park. We were able to ride the entire loop of the park in just less than one hour. The bikes, however, are not Trek bikes as advertised. I had difficulty learning how to use the shifting mechanism on my bike, as it was different than other bikes that I have. My partner had no trouble with his bike. It is one dollar extra to rent a basket to put your water bottle, etc. in, but helmets are free and optional. Staff at the store was friendly and helpful.
We’ve rented bikes from many companies as we have traveled. Unfortunately, the customer service was lacking. Honestly, I felt as if we were a bother. There was no orientation of the area. The bikes were promptly pulled and placed on the sidewalk and we were left on our own. There was no explanation of what should happen if we had a problem. Unfortunately, one bike’s chain kept slipping off and we didn’t realize until making the first hill in Central Park. We ended up walking the bike through the majority of the loop. Things happen but a little more customer service initially would have made the experience better.
Experience of riding through Central Park was great. Bikes could use some maintenance as gears didn’t work properly.
Catastrophic, the seller was hateful, he doubted the origin of our tripadvisor coupon, questioned our word. He gave us two completely out of order bikes with defective brakes! I don't recommend, I don't recommend.
Thank you for your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear about your experience—this is not the level of service we aim to provide. We take concerns about customer service and bike safety very seriously. Your comments have been shared with our team so we can address this internally and ensure it does not happen again. We would appreciate the opportunity to make this right—please feel free to contact us directly so we can assist you further.
We arrived at the bike rental store to not exactly a warm welcome. First, they said we were at the wrong place, and after we showed them the prepaid booking, they acknowledged that this actually was the place. The girl on reception was very abrupt and asked to see our ID. I said we didn’t have any ID on us, but obviously I had the booking that I’d made on Tripadvisor and a credit card with my name on it. They said that we couldn’t rent the bikes unless we had the ID or paid a $200 deposit. This then dropped immediately to $100 because I was asking for a refund. Eventually, we agreed to pay the hundred-dollar deposit. The girl behind the counter was smirking the whole time. The actual bikes were not in great condition, although we did enjoy cycling around Central Park. There are a lot of rules and regulations that they don’t tell you about—places you can and can’t go.I wouldn’t rent these bikes again because of this experience and also there are a lot of very rude New Yorkers in the park that clearly don’t want you using it.
Your feedback is important, and we will address these concerns with our team to ensure a smoother and more welcoming experience for future guests. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.
We had booked for three hours. When arrived to collect bikes, we were asked for security deposit of $200. We were never informed of this during the booking and it doesn’t state it on Tripadvisor. Meant we had to cancel the booking, no offer of refund etc. Just so other people are aware. This should be part of the terms and conditions on the listing as such.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. A refundable security deposit is a standard policy for all bike rentals and is outlined in our rental agreement at the time of check-in. We understand this may come as a surprise to some guests who book through third-party platforms, and we always recommend reviewing the tour details and rental policies prior to arrival. We appreciate your understanding and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you on a future visit to Central Park.
The bikes were awful, very old and very dirty Our hands and clothes had black stains on them. Handle bars were going all over the place it was hard to keep it straight You couldn’t change the gears on them all the way. We told them how we felt about their bikes and offered us 30% off from our next rental which just made us even more angry because who knows when we are back next they should offered us least a partial refund. Please don’t waste your money here. They are not worth it
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear that the bikes did not meet your expectations. Our team regularly services and cleans all bicycles to ensure a safe and comfortable ride, so this experience is certainly not typical. We’ve shared your comments with our maintenance team for immediate review. While we regret that our goodwill offer wasn’t satisfactory, please know that customer satisfaction is very important to us, and we hope you’ll consider giving us another opportunity to provide a better experience in the future.
Lovely park we were told it was big but it was way bigger than we thought it would be, it was kept very clean and we felt very safe cycling around, there are lot's of pedicab riders at the entrances trying to haggle you and some did in all fairness give good deals, there are lot's of famous filming locations in the park such as Home Alone 2 and Maid in Manhattan.
Perfect service! Bikes were completely fine! Instead of a guarantee, a driving licence was sufficient. Locks were included.
Our bike rental experience was deeply disappointing, mainly due to Bogdan Liu's unprofessionalism and lack of customer care. From the start, he was rude, moody, and seemed inexperienced in customer service. He handed us faulty bikes without checking their condition and, despite knowing the issues, didn’t offer any assistance when we had problems mid-ride. My bike seat was loose, making it difficult to ride, and my son’s bike chain came off, which required him to walk back 3 miles as I struggled to get my daughter back in time. She also didn’t have a functioning bell, so we had to repeatedly alert pedestrians verbally. Bogdan initially threatened an extra charge for returning a minute or two late, even though we had to stop to fix the issues with the bikes. Eventually, he didn’t charge us, but his attitude was far from helpful. I attempted to call the shop but couldn’t due to mobile restrictions, and it was only after persistent questioning that he even suggested he might be able to send a bike out. Finding Bogdan’s name on the receipt (as he wouldn’t share it) highlighted his overall lack of transparency. On the bright side, Viator’s UK-based Customer Support was helpful and courteous, arranging a full refund for us. This experience could have been much better if the staff had checked the equipment beforehand and demonstrated basic customer care skills.
