Our second stop... is a visit to the powerfully moving site of the final Jacobite Rising – the last and most harrowing pitched battle to be fought on British soil between Scotland and England. Explore the interactive visitor centre, view fascinating artefacts from both sides of the confrontation, and experience the battle in the immersive surround cinema. On 16 April 1746, the final Jacobite Rising came to a brutal head. Jacobite supporters, seeking to restore the Stuart monarchy to the British thrones, gathered to fight the Duke of Cumberland's government troops. It was the last pitched battle on British soil and, in less than an hour, around 1,500 men were slain – more than 1,000 of them Jacobites.

The Loch Ness Monster (Scottish Gaelic: Uilebheist Loch Nis),[3] known affectionately as Nessie, is a mythical creature in Scottish folklore that is said to inhabit Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands. It is often described as large, long-necked, and with one or more humps protruding from the water. Sarah Rocks as a tour guide.

Our tour guide Sarah was a local lassie and she was incredible. We loved the local stories, her historical knowledge of Scotland and her incredible demeanor. You can’t do this tour and not ask for Sarah to be your guide. The absolute highlight for me was the true story upon which the Outlander books (and TV show) are based and how the TV show got it right and how they didn’t. My friend loved Cawdor Castle and gardens the best and he thought Sarah’s recommendations there about the gardens were invaluable. We all just loved it.

It’s a wonderful day in the Scottish highlands. Culloden was especially interesting if you’re an Outlander fan. The castle was lovely with beautiful gardens. The tour guide was fantastic

Beyond Excellent

Fun day with George who was a great guide going out of his way to make the day ours and adjusting the itinerary. We got to see some neat things that we otherwise would not have. George was so knowledgeable and interesting.

HIghly recommend this memorable and educational tour!

Excellent execution from Sarah on our tour. We were spoiled as we were the only ones in the group so we received a "personal guided tour" of sorts. Sarah brings endless Scottish history and facts about the stops. We had already been to Loch Ness so Sarah adjusted the agenda which allowed us some extra time at the other stops. You are on a clock with this schedule so research these locations in advance if possible so you can focus on a few select areas to explore. Even without Loch Ness we wanted to spend more time at Culloden and Cawdor Castle. For you Outlander fans, Standing Stones has a link to the series. Sarah provided expert guidance on getting the most from the stops knowing that we couldn't do it all. She provided a brief and detailed directions on the popular aspects of a location so we could develop a game plan. A great day and highly recommend Sarah and/or her co-worker dad to lead a memorable and educational tour.

My favorite day in Scotland

Of our 10 days in Scotland, this was my favorite day. I loved the small group with a guide, George, who provided information, knowledge and his experience of Scotish life to make this a personal and meaningful experience. We took in Scotland in a way that the big tours could never provide. George was amazing!

Our Favorite

We had a wonderful time. Our guide Stephan, was informative, attentive and charming! The itinerary was lovely in particular if you were even a wee bit familiar with the history of the area. Ask for Stephan of “Go Highlands”, he will be the frosting on the cake.

Capital of the Highlands - Inversnecky - not to be missed!

our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and funny. He gave insights on the history of the culloden battle, cawdor castle, and Loch ness and I do believe we saw a glimpse of Nessie! :-) He conducted the tour in his highland attire, kilt and all. Mystery if he was sporting his undergarments! We also took a side trip to see the breeder/exporter of the Budweiser Clydesdale horses. Do yourself a favor and take this excursion. Hopefully you will get the awesome weather to accompany this one and a lifetime experience.
