Nothing much to do several sleeping cats not interested in interaction . Wouldn’t call it a museum more a cafe
I wouldn’t really call this a museum in the traditional sense. It feels much more like a spacious cat café with different areas where you can relax, read, play games, or simply spend time with the cats. There are also dedicated spaces for children to play. What I loved most was the calm and relaxed atmosphere. The cats all seemed very comfortable and relaxed, with plenty of space to move around across the two floors. The air conditioning was also a big plus, especially on a hot day. The staff members were very cordial and welcoming, and overall it was a lovely place to spend some relaxing time in the company of the cats. If you’re expecting a traditional museum, you might be surprised by the concept, but if you’re looking for a peaceful place to unwind with cats, it’s definitely worth a visit.
Lovely and helpful guides and cute cats.
The cats hide or sleep. They don't interact at all. It is the most useless place in the world. The staff is unfriendly and annoyed. Waste of money! The cats hide or sleep. They don't interact at all. It's the most useless place in the world. The staff is unfriendly and annoyed. Waste of money!
The cats seem heavily sedated. Mostly sleeping, don't purr and barely react to interaction, it's not normal behaviour at all so there has to be something going on, they don't seem happy to be stroked but seem too out of it fo move, very uncomfortable experience. Heavy smell of cat urine. This shouldn't be supported, it's just sad.
A really horrible experience. The cats seem drugged, they seem unhappy when they're being stroked and yet don't move because they just seem to be so out of it. They don't purr or look at you when you stroke them and you could barely even feel some of their heartbeats. They don't really seem to have much space to get away from people other than the litter tray rooms and a lot of the cats spent most of their time in the litter tray rooms even though cats naturally hate to be around filth because they couldn't handle being around people. I've been around cats my whole life and this is not normal behaviour, even shy or sleepy cats are still responsive to being stroked but these cats didn't even seem like they knew what was going on. There was a smell of urine through a lot of it and the cats only seemed attentive when food was out. The staff were also quite rude to me, when trying to do a quiz on the tablet that was in Hungarian one of the staff members asked me if i needed to turn it to English so i went to press the button to translate it to English and she got really annoyed at me because i was supposed to open a different tab. They sounded quite rude to the other attendees as well. Honestly it seemed like every adult there also could tell that there was something wrong with the cats and only young children seemed unaware. The staff seemed to be almost watching over people because i think they knew that the attendees knew that something was wrong. Really disgusting behaviour to drug up animals and just use them for money when they're clearly not happy in this environment.
Only two small rooms jammed with photos, crowded space with no guidance, couple of tables and machineries to make some sounds. welcoming staff at reception but the tour is practically 5 minutes if you pet 3 of the cats as well.
Calling it a museum is an exaggeration. A two-story apartment furnished with photos, signs, and stories about the cats, who mostly sleep. We wondered how they could not be annoyed by the people who try to pet or pick them up. Could it be that they are sedated? We left with a heavy heart. A very sad place for us. No guide, no stories; the two ladies at the entrance are very brisk, they invite you to put on shoe covers, and that's it; the ticket costs about 13 euros.
The museum was super interesting and the cats there were all super cute. If I lived in Budapest, I would go there every week. Furthermore, the admission price was also justified for what you get (super cute kitties)
So we were looking for something a little different to do mid way thru our visit to Budapest. We found this "Cat Museum" about 15 min walk from our hotel. Not really a museum but more of a local cat shelter that you pay a nominal fee to enter. They make you a coffee upon arrival, then you hang around and check out the 10-15 cats they have roaming around their 2 story apt (probably about 100 sq mt.). Most of the felines are open to getting petted. Very interesting for cat lovers (like us).
