Calypso Outer Great Barrier Reef Cruise from Port Douglas

The most amazing day. Everything was well co-ordinated, and the staff were great. We visited three beautiful sites - amazing experience.

The organisation was good and the boat was comfortable with plenty of shaded areas. We took some sea sickness pills beforehand as although it was a relatively calm day it does take 90 minutes out to the first site. We were offered (and wisely) accepted wetsuits and had ample time at all three sites. The first was meh by comparison but the second and third were full of life and we saw both a turtle and a shark while snorkelling. Food for lunch was simple but plentiful. Definitely recommended but remember to keep reapplyimg reef safe suntan lotion to the backs of your legs!

Loved this experience. Kudos to Lauren who helped ease my fear of the water to experience the GBR. The only thing I would fault is it would have been good to have commentary about the reef during the tour. Overall, a great trip

I was trying to decide between this and the Wayfarer Low Isles trip which was a little cheaper. the Wayfarer company told me there were 390 booked on their reef trip and 95 on the islands trip! So glad we went for this instead, there were maybe about 30 people and the yacht is huge. The boat was pristine clean and all the equipment was too, including the wetsuits they offered. They had pool noodles as an option for adults or kids who can swim but may get tired after an hour or so. The snorkelling sites we visited were fantastic and we had loads of time at each one. My kids loved the marine biologist talk and I really appreciated the time Freya took with my 13 year old autistic son to take him out on a little marine life treasure hunt, she and the other lady on the trip were really kind and good with all the kids. Food was good for hungry families and great to have hot drinks as you do get cold being in the water so long. Boat ride back was bliss just stretched out in the sun on the deck. Totally recommend paying the $100 extra or whatever it is for a small group experience, loved it.

Fantastic day out. Excellent snorkeling. Great staff and guides. Risk assessment over the top but understandable with the degree of danger. Beautiful corals and fish. Long enough at each site. Lovely lunch and adequate morn and afternoon tea. Loved every minute. Thank you!

Phenomenal day, the reef is extraordinary. Three different stops along Opal reef all of which were similar and unique at the same time.. truly a bucket list experience that you should not miss

.I am incredibly frustrated and disappointed with my experience with Calypso. I booked and paid for a three-tank dive, but instead, they completely wasted a day of my life by dragging me 50 miles out to sea to do an activity I did not want to do. The biggest issue is their abysmal administration policy. They do not require or review medical paperwork online before you arrive. Instead, they had me fill it out on the boat while we were already on our way to the reef. During this trip out, they reviewed my form and refused to let me dive because of a medical condition that resolved 4 years ago—a condition I have successfully and safely dived with multiple times since without any issues. They rigidly insisted on a doctor's note that obviously no one can get while sitting on a boat in the middle of the ocean. Because they completely botched the pre-screening process, my diving day was ruined. They allowed me to snorkel instead, which was an absolute joke. It was a chaotic mess of them dumping 70 people in the waterat once and essentially just saying "there's the reef." There was zero personal attention or quality to the experience. If Calypso had the basic operational competence to review medical paperwork online days before the trip, I could have either sorted out a note or cancelled my booking to go with a company that actually cares. Instead, they took my money, trapped me on a boat for a day, and completely ruined my time in Port Douglas. Avoid this operator if you are a certified diver.
