Itinerary
Horseshoe Canyon
30 min
The canyon gets its name from its horseshoe shape, defined by two coulees that flow into the Kneehill Creek, a tributary of the Red Deer River. The canyon's two arms are approximately 5 km long each, extending from Highway 9 to Kneehill Creek, at two former mining communities of Dunphy and Gatine. In turn, it gives the name to the Horseshoe Canyon Formation.
Drumheller
15 min
Welcome to Drumheller!
The Hoodoos
30 min
A hoodoo is a tall thin rock spire made of sandstone with a hard and dense rock sitting on top, like a hat. Or as the sign at the park describes them: “Eroded pillars of soft sandstone rock topped with a resilient cap.“
The hoodoos are formed over hundreds of years through erosion from freezing, frost, melt and wind. Over time, the sandstone erodes into long chimney-like formations that remain standing because the hard rock “hat” keeps it from completely eroding away.
The hard rock on the top of the hoodoos protects the soft layer of sandstone underneath from the elements creating the odd shape. But once they reach the stage of being the cute fairytale chimneys, they don’t last long! It is said that every 100 years, they lose 2-4 feet.

Amazing and great service!
Manny, our driver was amazing! He was friendly and accomodating, and I felt safe as a passenger. He kept the cabin of the clean van cool as it was warm outside.
Royal Tyrell Museum was absolutely astonishing- exceeding my high expectations.
To me the experience was well worth the money, as it was the best way to feel comfortable and safe to see exhibits I have long looked forward to from the other side of the world.
Operator response

Our first private day trip & learning curve
We stayed in Calgary for a week without renting a car, so arranging a couple private day trips was necessary. We decided to splurge on a private tour...and ABest is a good firm to go with. Our driver, Ali was very chatty, and had a lot of great tips and stories. Only snafu was a miscommunication about stopping at an old ghost town that we had no interest in and have visited similar in our western US trips.
Operator response
Thank you so much for choosing our services. Take care on all your travels and we hope to see you again when you come back in the Canadian Rockies.

Amazing dinosaur museum
I love dinosaurs so I have always wanted to visit the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller! I happened to be in Calgary on my way home from a big trip so I decided to see if it was reasonable to fit in a visit to Drumheller while I was there. Thanks to Abest Transport & Tour, it was!
Our driver was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, sorry I didn't have better cold-weather clothing to get out and explore more! My main goal was to the see the Royal Tyrell and it was excellent. There are so many cool specimens there, including a surprising number of intact and mostly intact ones. Those are so rare to find but Alberta is one of the best places for it.
If you also love dinosaurs the Royal Tyrell in Drumheller is a must-see.

Nice day!
Amman was very pleasant and he was great when my son thought he lost his wallet, which ended up In between the seats in van, then my car keys were also in my son pocket which fell with wallet but we didn’t realize til after Amman dropped us off at hotel. I called Amman and he went back checked that that evening, he didn’t find, but called the next morning and asked if he could double check and he did find the keys!!!
Operator response
We are so glad that Amman found your missing items! We will let him know that his efforts did not go to waste, and that you had a wonderful time with him. Thank you for your review and we hope to see you again next time!

Great tour!
Or tour guide Aljay was personable and very flexible to accommodate our tour wants and food sensitivities. Enjoyed the stop in the Badlands at Horseshoe Canyon and the later stop to view hoodoos. The Royal Tyrell Museum is excellent.

Best your ever!
We visited the horseshoe canyon, hoodoos, Tyrell Museum and many more places all within a day; this was great for us, especially since we had a short stay in Alberta and wanted to see Drumheller and the Badlands. I highly recommend this tour, and I am looking forward to booking another tour with them soon.

Amazing tour with an even more amazing guide!
Our guide for the day was amazing! This was by far one of the highlights of our trip. Jef was friendly, knowledgeable and just overall amazing. The tour was catered to our interests which was fantastic for a group of Girl Guides from Ontario! While we there were too many fake dinosaurs (inside joke with Jef) we enjoyed every minute of the trip. We were very grateful he took a detour at our request to hit up McDonalds for some cold beverages and some ice cream on a hot day. We will recommend ABest Transport & Tour Services to everyone.
Operator response
Thank you for the amazing review! We are happy you had a great time with Jeff. We hope to accommodate you again in the future!
