Marvel at the King Neptune's statue Virginia Beach's Boardwalk. This imposing structure might seem to be merely a personification of the ocean itself constructed to entertain beach-goers. But there is a far more sinister history behind its presence here.
As you stroll along the Virginia Beach boardwalk, prepare to encounter the Conch Shell Art Installation—a mesmerizing and eerie collection that transforms ordinary shells into hauntingly beautiful artworks. Amidst the sea breeze and soft murmur of the ocean, each shell seems to whisper ghostly tales of sailors lost at sea and spirits adrift, weaving a captivating and otherworldly narrative into the coastal landscape.
We have all heard of the fearsome pirate Blackbeard and his murderous crew. But did you know Hampton Roads played a central role in the story? Only on our Virginia Beach Ghost Tour will find out why the boardwalk is so haunted!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the ghost tour. It was fun, quirky and learned a lot about Virginia Beach history
We went on the Buried Beneath the Boardwalk: Neptune Ghosts & Ghouls Tour in Virginia Beach this past weekend with my 16-year-old son, my cousin, and her 9-year-old daughter. Overall, we had a great time! My cousin's 9-year-old thought it was a little boring because, in her words, "the guide talked too much." 😂 But the stories were interesting, and if you enjoy local history mixed with ghost stories, it's worth checking out. The coolest part happened after the tour. While listening back to one of our audio recordings and carefully reviewing our photos, we heard what sounded like a voice in the background saying either "I'm back" or "Look back." We also noticed that the EMF meter was lit up red during that moment, which definitely gave us chills! Another creepy surprise was at the Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum. If you look closely at some of the windows in our photos, it almost looks like you can see ghostly figures inside. Whether it's paranormal or just your imagination, it definitely made the experience even more fun to talk about afterward. If you're into ghost stories, local legends, and a little mystery, I'd recommend giving this tour a try. Just be sure to take lots of pictures and record some audio—you never know what you might capture!
First being the group was a bit difficult we went to the meeting address however there was an outdoor concert making it hard to find the guide. We eventually found them but missed the first story. Our guide Justin was a fantastic historian and story teller with eloquent wording and family friendly stories. He knew much about the area and each story was unique.
Just not what I was expecting. Alot of people became bored.
Two adults and two older teens. We all really liked it. Very interesting stories and great guide.
Guide was just ok. Not informative enough. Have been on more interesting tours like st Augustine and Gettysburg and Jenny wade house etc.
This was one of the worst tours I've been on. The guide did not want to be there and kept forgetting half of the story then would ask us if we knew the rest. She said she was bad at this job because it was her second job. And she didn't care if you could hear her or not and would often mumble and look down at the ground while she talked. It sounded like this would have been a pretty good tour if we had a competent guide but I don't know if I would trust this company to hire good guides after how awful this one was.
Our tour guide was very kind and knowledgeable on Neptune, Blackbeard, Princess Ann and the overall history of Virginia Beach. He interacted very well with the kids on the tour, kept the adults engaged as well, and added in humor throughout! It was a perfect first evening activity after making the drive here!
Justin was passionate about this tour. He made the evening fun and informative.
Hi Judy, thank you for the spook-tacular review! We’re so glad you had a great time with Justin. His passion for the stories and history really helps make the tour both fun and informative. We’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to him. Thanks again for joining us!
