⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What a fantastic way to experience Budapest! Our Culinary and Wine Walk was one of the highlights of our visit. Anna was an excellent guide—friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about Hungarian food, wine, and culture. We started by tasting local specialties and treats at the Central Market Hall, then continued through different areas of the city, sampling more Hungarian favorites along the way. Anna did a wonderful job explaining the history and traditions behind everything we tried, which made the experience much more than just a food tour. The perfect ending was a tasting of Hungarian wines, followed by coffee and delicious desserts. Great food, great wine, and a wonderful introduction to Budapest. Highly recommend this tour, and especially Anna!

Budapest’s first food tour, est. 2008! With our expert guide, you’ll learn all about Hungarian gastronomy, Hungary’s fascinating food culture, and its exciting wine scene. Our epic food, wine, and culture walk begins at The Central Market Hall—Budapest’s cathedral of food and one of Europe’s largest and most spectacular indoor markets—and continues through several of its most charming neighborhoods. We’ll explore the Ferencváros neighborhood, the Palace Quarter (a vibrant university area known for its splendid old aristocratic palaces), and the Újlipótváros area (almost like a village within the city, with café-lined streets, art deco buildings, spacious parks and cute shops). Our second market hall is off the beaten tourist track, with a great selection of vendors and a local clientele.

Central Market Hall
The Central Market Hall is Budapest’s cathedral of food and one of Europe’s largest and most spectacular indoor markets. We’ll introduce you to Hungarian cuisine through the great variety and abundance of ingredients (mostly local and seasonal) on display. We will discuss the spectacular building, the culture of eating and drinking in Hungary, the ingredients, the dishes commonly made from them … and just what it is that Hungarian home cooks do with all of that pork fat, paprika, and goose liver. As we walk the market aisles we’ll taste a selection of foods (and have an aperitif to fortify us).
Liberty Bridge (Szabadsag hid)
We'll pass by this bridge, one of the several spanning the Danube.
Hungarian National Museum
We explore the Palace Quarter (a vibrant university area known for its splendid old palaces, where aristocrats built their palatial homes in the 19th and early 20th centuries), and pass by the Hungarian National Museum, on our way to the wine tasting cellar.
Tasting Table Budapest
The tour concludes with a wine and cheese tasting at an independent wine tasting cellar and shop. A sommelier will introduce us to the Hungarian wine regions, varietals, and styles, helping you put the Hungarian wine scene in context. We’ll end with a taste of the spectacular golden-tinted Tokaji aszú wine, one of the world's finest sweet wines.

We'll explore this neighborhood market, one of the city's fines, where chefs and locals alike shop daily.
We explore the Ferencváros neighborhood, around the Central Market Hall, on our food exploration of Budapest.

Best way to experience real Hungarian food and wine!!

We learned about WAY more than food!
Christine, our guide, was personable, warm, funny and wow - she knows about history, geography, literature, art! The food experiences were nestled into context of Budapest social and political forces. This was a fascinating tour. We rode the tram and the subway. We tasted everything from pastries to pickled vegetables to goulash to sausage. We avoided the obvious touristy spots. Great tour. Highly recommend.

Do it day one!
This was a great way to learn about Hungarian food and traditions, and see a bit of Pest. Our guide Kristine was wonderful. Highly recommend as an introduction to Budapest and Hungarian food!

Wonderful food and wine tour!
This is one of the best food and wine tours ever. I think this company does a great job and I will seek them out whenever we travel. Bali was our guide and he was great! He spoke very good English but his time of voice was perfectly loud enough so we could all hear. He also had the perfect pace for the tour. We loved the food choices along the way and I loved seeing Margaret Island and the cute residential cafes. The cap on the trip with a coffee and dessert just after the wine tasting was a perfect finish! Thanks Bali!

If you had 5 hours in the morning in Budapest...
Having only a full day in Budapest, this was a great way to see the city, eat what and where the locals eat, quiz our knowledgeable guide about the history and culture of Hungary. Not only was the food good, but the stories behind them were so interesting. Cristine, our guide, also shared other places of interest, restaurants and things to do on our own. The highlight was the wine tasting and cheese paring at Tasting Table. Well worth our time and money. Thank you Taste Hungary for offering such a good program.

A varied interesting experience in Budapest
A had a 5 hour tour of Budapest starting in central market, using public transport to explore different parts of the city and eating heaps of delicious food. The guide was personable and gave us a good insight into Budapest. Really recommended!

Cultural treat
A wonderful blend of a historical and cultural tour and a taste of a wide variety of Hungarian foods. They took us away from the crowded tourist areas to small shops and markets with authentic, hand made offerings. Our guide Ester was a delight and so informative. Tour information was well communicated and the stops were all very organized and efficient. Although we covered a lot of ground, the pace was reasonable with plenty of options to sit at the various stops. Highly recommend.

Fabulous Tour with Guide Aniko
The Budapest Culinary & Wine Walk from Taste Hungary was fabulous. We had a great time and learned a lot about the history and food of Budapest. Our guide, Aniko, was excellent, very friendly and knowledgeable. The best part was the variety of places she took us and the different foods we tried, combined with the stories our guide shared.

Eat like a local Hungarian!
What a fun tour! Krisztina, our guide, was such a blast. She has lived in Budapest for over 20 years and knows all the good spots and what makes Hungarian food unique and tasty. How do I know? Because our cousin who has lived in Budapest her entire life was on the tour with us and could validate! Krisztina steered us away from touristy spots. The wine tasting at the end the Taste Hungary wine cellar was delightful and we learned so much! I’d happily take more tours thru TH and would recommend this specific tour to anyone who is interested in local cuisine, appreciates non-touristy spots, likes a good walk, and is unafraid to try new things.
