Marius was a fantastic tour guide. His knowledge of the Jewish religion and particularly the Jewish experience in Bucharest was exceptional. This was one of the best tours we've ever been on. Kudos to Marius for a exceptional experience.
Marius was the best tour guide I have ever had. He listened to our interests and was well prepared to make our jewish history tour memorable. We spent a great deal of time at the cemetery because my husband was very interested in it. We even saw the chapel and met the conservator who showed us the actual burial records (kept in large journals with one letter on each journal). Marius has maps and pictures on his tablet which enhance the experience. We saw Choral Temple inside and many other sites outside including the holocaust memorial. Marius took us to anything we wanted to see and we even went to a coffee shop and sandwich shop with the best bread in the world. The grand synagogue is closed for renovations but Marius gave us extra notice about it. What a wonderful way to see Bucharest!
Fascinating & educational. Marius was very knowledgeable & a great story teller. Also friendly, helpful, & kind.
Marius was an exceptional guide. He was knowledgeable, organized and provided us with valuable information
The Jewish Heritage Tour was outstanding. Our guide, Maurius, was very well informed and explained the history of the Jews in Romania in a clear, concise and comprehensive manner. He didn’t whitewash the sad and troubling details including the role Romanians played in the pogroms and deportations. The day flew and we were very fortunate to accomplish everything on our agenda. We visited the Ashkenazi cemetery where Maurius pointed out many important headstones and the WWI Memorial; and we toured 3 synagogues as well as the Memorial to the Holocaust. Thank you Maurius for your sincere and honest guiding.
Thank you for your heartfelt feedback! I'm so glad you found the tour meaningful and informative. It was an honor to share this essential history with you. Wishing you enriching journeys ahead. Marius
The Jewish Heritage Tour with Marius was just excellent. He is so well informed about the history (often tragic) of Jews in Romania. The synagogues, especially the Choral Synagogue, are not to be missed. I am so glad to have visited the cemetery, and to see, in particular, the area of graves of Jewish soldiers. The Holocaust Memorial is a powerful reminder of the effects of irrational hate and bigotry. All in all, it was a very worthwhile tour. I recommend it in the strongest terms.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the tour. I'm truly glad you appreciated the journey through Romania's Jewish heritage. It is meaningful to know the experience was worthwhile and impactful for you. Warm regards, Marius.
I had only 1 day at Bucharest, and wanted to cover max that I could. If you are pressed for time or not, I would highly recommend Discover Romania’s tour of Bucharest Jewish Heritage Holocaust Memorial. I opted for the solo tour; so it was specially curated for me. However, the ease of flow in the tour didn’t make me realize how far out all the points of interest were. The car transfer inclusion helped ensure I cover maximum venues, with enough time to hear the guided history anecdotes as well as personally cover some of the memorial visits at my own pace reading through the English translation/scripts. It was interesting to see how Greater Romanian history was supported by Jews, and eventually transitioned through the difficult times during WW-1 and 2. Highly recommended!
Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed review! I'm glad you enjoyed the tour and appreciated its structure and insights. It’s great to hear our services allowed for a meaningful exploration. Wishing you more inspiring travels! Marius
This experience with Marius is not to be missed while visiting Bucharest. We were shown the synagogues and cemetery as described but the one on one with Marius was the highlight of our tour. He has a wealth of knowledge of the Jewish community and provided the insight to appreciate those lives beyond a century ago. Any interest in the Jewish heritage of this magnificent Romanian city should be scheduled with Marius, no disappointment will occur.
This is an excellent overview of Jewish history in Bucharest. We visited two synagogues, a cemetery, and the Jewish museum, all important places in the history of Jewish life in Romania.
