Martha’s Vineyard Day trip

Our trip was amazing. Thatch was an excellent drive, safe and on time. Info was great for learning about Boston and area. Ferry was great and team super friendly. Paul on the island was excellent the info was amazing for our 1st time there. Just would’ve like a bit more time to explore Oaks Bluff: Over all well worth it.

What I expected!

Make sure to take a jacket and umbrella. It rained all day and got chillier by the hour. It was a good trip other than the rain.

I'll start with saying that the bus ride to Cape Cod and the ferry to Martha's Vinyard were very enjoyable. The driver on the bus, Johnny Boston, was very helpful and very funny. The trip across Cape Cod Bay was confortable and the scenery was beautiful. However, the bus trip around Martha's Vinyard was the most horrible tour I've ever taken. We confirmed the day before that we could take my husband's scooter with us. And then they called us after we were on the first bus from Boston to Cape Cod to tell us that they wouldn't be able to accommodate it on the second bus on Martha's Vineyard. They said that we'd have to leave it by the bike racks. My daughter couldn't find the bike racks anywhere. She decided to try to leave it with the Harbor Master, who was kind enough to let us. The very rude bus driver on Martha's Vineyard almost left my daughter behind as she was crossing the street. She had to run to catch up to the bus. The driver was so rude to her when she caught up to us. Then he proceed to require absolute silence as he gave us a first row seat to a racist-inflected monotone monologue. The tour itself on Martha's Vinyard was not at all interesting. The driver spoke continuously pointing out things which we mostly could not even see for the trees and telling stories with no relevance. In fact, 90% of the tour was just trees. When we got a glimpse of the coast line. It was impossible to get a photo because the driver was gong so fast. The stop at the lighthouse was so short that it was impossible to have the time to climb to the top to enjoy the view. All in all, this tour was a horrible experience and a waste of time and money.

Operator response

Thank you for your review. You were told that there would be no room for a scooter on the island tour bus and you chose to take it anyway. Your description of a small fold-up scooter was not very accurate. Sincerely, Stephen M. Belcastro President New England Trips Inc.

I highly recommend this Day trip to Martha's Vineyard!

The Boston to Martha's Vineyard Day trip with the Optional Island Tour was excellent! I did this tour with my 4 girlfriends as part of our Boston girls trip. The pickup at the Marriott Longwharf Hotel was on time (6:15 am) and the bus driver was very pleasant and conversational as she drove us to Falmouth to catch the ferry. The Ferry was on time and a pleasant scenic ride to Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard. The best part was the 3 hour island tour. Our driver/guide was very knowledgeable. He grew up in Martha's Vineyard and gave lots of historical information as well as interesting personal stories about the island. After the tour we had some time to shop and have lunch (Nancy's Restaurant was excellent). Then it was time to catch the ferry back to Falmouth, and the bus back to the Marriott Longwhsrf. I highly recommend this excursion.

Didn't think I would be in a motorcade!

Both the driver to the ferry and Tom, our tour driver on the island, were extremely knowledgeable and excellent guides. The weather was perfect and the highlight for me was when Tom pointed out Barack Obama's (he lives on MV) motorcade turning in front of us on his way to the golf course!

Great Time on Martha’s Vineyard

It was was a wonderful experience. Joe, our guide/driver was a wealth of information on our drive from Boston to Martha’s Vineyard. Tom, our guide on the island did an excellent job telling us about the island. Having been born on the island gives him a true insight into the island.
