can’t thank Mohamed enough for pulling off a small miracle to ensure I was able to visit The Blue City in Chefchaouen, Morocco for my birthday. I was having the hardest time confirming a tour for 1. I reached out to Chefchaouen Adventures as a final Hail Mary before giving up via WhatsApp and in less than 2hrs Mohamed not only booked me a private tour, with less than a 24hr notice before my desired picked up time, he did it with grace, professionalism and reassurance my birthday wish would be granted, which was to spend the day in The Blue City. He paired me with Hatim who was my driver and Imad who was my personal tour guide upon arrival. Both were top notch and made me feel comfortable and quiet frankly like family. As a woman who travels solo 99% of the time it can be scary to book an excursion solo however I’m so glad I took the chance. I can’t thank the team enough for making my birthday super special…and the unexpected gift at the end was the icing on the cake for me. This cascade is very handy. It keeps things cool and provides heaps of running water for the women of the town to come to the communal laundry to go the family wash. it provides an important source not just of water but social interaction for the women whose lives seem to be somewhat proscribed and cloistered. No need to make a special point of visiting it as you will just come across it while wandering around the hilly little town.

Small and quiet, the Chefchaouen Cemetery points to the remnants of a once vibrant culture. Visitors may notice that many of the tombs have inscriptions written in Arabic

Grand Mosque
Constructed in the 15th century, Chefchaouen’s Grande Mosque was built on the orders of Moulay Mohamed Ben Ali Ben Rachid, the son of the city’s founder. It features an octagonal minaret, which is somewhat unusual when compared to the many square minarets that generally tower over the nation’s myriad mosques. The shape was influenced by Andalusian styles, brought to the country by Muslims from Spain. Built from stone, the shades of brown and beige are juxtaposed against the nearby blue and white buildings. Admiring the mosque is among the top things to do in the city. We spent a great day with Mohammed. Having grown up in the middle of the medina in Chefchaouen, he knows all the hidden spots and can give all background information of this beautiful city. We felt very comfortable from the beginning and couldn't have asked for a better guide.

Blue City Sunday
This was a lovely day trip to the Blue City. It was so convenient to be picked up directly from the St Regis Tamuda Bay and to drive along the mountains for a scenic view before getting to the city and exploring for a few hours. We had a young local tour guide who was phenomenal and gave us lots of great historical insights as we explored the city. We ended the afternoon with a lovely lunch overlooking the mountains and city. Would highly recommend this tour.
