A brilliant way to explore the area and see the beauty all around. You will ride across plateaus, surrounded by mountains on relatively easy grade 1-2 family friendly trails. The recommended route follows trails all the way from Hawea, alongside the Hawea river, through Albert Town and then follows the Clutha river to Wanaka. On your way there are lots of interesting places to visit including Lake Hawea, Pembroke Patisserie, Wanaka, the Wanaka Tree and the Edgewater Hotel garden bar.

The meeting point is Please wait at the loading bays outside the Wanaka i-SITE, 103 Ardmore Street. Look for the branded nzbiketrails shuttle and bike trailer - no need to check in at the i-SITE. Parking (no time limits) is normally available on each side of Pembroke Park, parallel to the Lakeside. Hotel pickup is not part of this experience.

This is the third time we have booked a bike riding trip with NZ Bike Trails. They never disappoint! Great friendly service, quality bikes and scenic trails. Our kids (aged 7 and 10) loved the experience of being on e-bikes for the first time. We will be back again!

As a lone traveler I found this ride very safe and easy. I'm in my early 60's and had only ridden an E bike once before but James gave me great instructions. There were signs along the way to guide you. James also told us of places to stop for eating along the way. Plenty of toilets so don't panic. The scenery is breathtaking especially when there's new snow on the mountains. Ask for the gel seat pad as this works a treat. I enjoyed the cycle so much I did it again with a friend 2 days later. Even better the second time round. Thanks James and team for the very personal service you provide. See you next time I'm in Wanaka.

Great experience with detailed instructions given on way out to trail start with recommendations on stops along the way. Driver made sure all were able to ride bikes prior to leaving us to ride the trail. I would recommend as a great family activity.

When my partner wanted to go skiing for another day and I was quite happy not to, I wanted to do some cycling instead. I'm used to an e-bike, but opted for a traditional MTB for the day. Turned out I was more out of shape than I thought, but good things take effort - and the views along the way more than made up for it. The whole logistical side of things (pick-up, drop-off, bike set-up, route tips and tricks) was impeccable, James made sure I knew exactly where to go.
Had a great day out cycling from Hawea to Wanaka. We only booked on the morning of the trip, but was easy to arrange. James took us (family of four) and showed us all the local points of interest and route. We know the area well so not an issue. In any case its hard to get lost and even if you did, its a nice area so would just mean some more time cycling. It was super windy at Haea but as soon as we were away from the lakefront the rest of the path was reasonbly protected. We had a nice lunch in alberttown, but the rain had started by then. My son was very reluctant to continue, James was nice enough to come and encourage him to finish the ride (rather than just pick him up) - which he did. We got very wet on the last leg into wanaka. If the weather was better we probably would have cycled further around Lake Wanaka. Nevertheless the mountains were dramatic and it was a good way to fill a non skiing day.
