Bike Rental in Amsterdam

Had a genuinely bad experience with A-Bike rentals. I honestly can't understand how they have such a high rating. **TLDR:** They lost my reservation, didn't have the bike I booked, upsold me into the wrong bike, and handed us bikes with skipping gears, worn-out brakes and rusted bolts. Then they claimed the bikes were new. On top of that, they nickel-and-dime you for helmets, phone holders and flat tire help. Great countryside, terrible rental. Go anywhere else. I reserved the bikes online the day before. Their reservation system didn't ask for sizing, so I wrote to them that same day to confirm they had a big enough size for my father. They said they did. So they clearly saw my reservation. When we arrived, they couldn't find my reservation, and the trekking bike I had reserved wasn't even at that store. I had the confirmation email right there showing everything was correct. Instead of fixing their mistake, the fast-talking salesman pushed me into their city touring bike. Huge mistake. I had planned a 40-mile ride, and this bike was far too uncomfortable and slow for it. And after confirming in writing that they had the right size for my father, their e-bike was still too small for him. With our day already planned, we took the bikes anyway. Then came the extras. Helmets cost extra. Phone holders cost extra. They don't provide a flat kit, and if you get a flat, they'll only help you if you paid extra for their insurance. Every other rental I've used has included all of this for free. Here, basic safety gear and roadside help are treated as upsells. The bikes were in terrible condition. I have rented bikes in 15 other cities in 9 other countries this year, and this was easily one of the worst, which is embarrassing for a city famous for biking. The shifting was completely out of alignment: front and rear would skip, refuse to shift, or rub. The brakes were worn down to the point that stopping power was noticeably reduced. The grips were literally coming apart in my hands. When we returned the bikes and raised these problems, the guy told us the bikes were new and had only been in the shop for a week. I looked down and saw that every single bolt was rusted. So either they bought terrible bikes, or he flat out lied to my face. Neither is acceptable. I highly recommend biking in the Amsterdam countryside. The ride itself was incredible. But do yourself a favor and rent from literally anyone else.

Excellent quality, really comfortable and phenomenal range on the ebikes, even more than we we're expecting. Easily coped 70km+ with lots of gear. Would definitely recommend.
