Itinerary
At Sitka National Historical Park, you’ll step into Alaska’s rich past while surrounded by towering totem poles, lush temperate rainforest, and a stunning coastal backdrop. Stroll the scenic totem-lined trails, where intricately carved poles tell the stories of the Tlingit people, their traditions, and their resilience. Wander through the majestic Tongass National Forest, the largest temperate rainforest in the world, where moss-draped trees, babbling streams, and fresh ocean air create a peaceful, awe-inspiring escape into nature. As you cross Indian River, keep an eye out for salmon swimming upstream to spawn in late summer and fall—a powerful sight showcasing Alaska’s wild beauty. At the visitor center, explore exhibits on Tlingit craftsmanship, Russian-American history, and the 1804 Battle of Sitka. Whether you're drawn to history, wildlife, or breathtaking scenery, this park is a must-visit gem!
At Fortress of the Bear, you’ll come face-to-face (safely!) with rescued Alaskan brown and black bears in a stunning natural setting. Unlike a zoo, this wildlife rescue and education center provides a spacious, naturalized habitat where the bears can roam, play, and interact much as they would in the wild. From elevated viewing platforms, you’ll get unobstructed, photographer-friendly views of these incredible animals while knowledgeable staff share their rescue stories, behaviors, and conservation efforts. This is more than just a viewing experience—it’s a chance to connect with Alaska’s wildlife and learn how Fortress of the Bear is giving these orphaned bears a second chance at life. A must-see for animal lovers and nature enthusiasts alike!
At the Alaska Raptor Center, you’ll get an up-close look at some of Alaska’s most majestic birds of prey, including bald eagles, owls, and hawks. This renowned wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center provides a rare opportunity to see these powerful birds and learn about the incredible work being done to rehabilitate and release injured raptors back into the wild. Stroll through the Raptor Woodland, where eagles and other birds live in a lush forest setting, and step into the flight training aviary, where recovering raptors regain their strength before being released. Along the way, knowledgeable staff and volunteers share fascinating insights into each bird’s story, natural behaviors, and conservation efforts. Whether you're a bird lover, a photography enthusiast, or just curious about Alaska’s wildlife, the Alaska Raptor Center offers a truly inspiring and educational experience you won’t forget!

Excellent tour - small group. Guide was very knowledgable. The raptors and bears were so fun to see close up.
Sid is very knowledgeable , so nice of him to wear his Rain gear so we wouldn’t get any rain! Was a beautiful day!!
Not wheelchair accessible. The van is not wheelchair accessible so I could not even start the journey. Nothing in the description says I would need to walk into the van and fold my wheelchair. Maybe the rest of the trip was wheelchair accessible but if you can’t start the journey then nothing is accessible.
We're sorry you were disappointed and that we weren't able to accommodate you on our tour. Our tour description clearly states that we can accommodate folding wheelchairs only. Our vans are not ADA accessible and do not have wheelchair lifts or ramps. We regularly welcome guests who travel with folding wheelchairs, but they must be able to transfer into and out of the van with minimal assistance so the wheelchair can be folded and stored during the tour. Unfortunately, because you were unable to transfer from your wheelchair into the van, we could not safely transport you. The tour itself did proceed as scheduled for the other guests. Although our cancellation policy did not require it, we still chose to provide you with a full refund because we wanted to do the right thing. We're sorry this tour wasn't a good fit for your mobility needs, but we don't feel a one-star review is a fair reflection of the experience we provide, as our accessibility limitations are disclosed in the tour description before booking.
We enjoyed the tour and learned a lot! Our tour guide Riley did an exceptional job. His knowledge and lifelong experience living in Sitka made the tour very educational.
Great tour and Riley was a super guide. Capt Gary went above and beyond to help us coordinate this tour with another one. Great seeing raptors and bear so close. Highly recommend Best of Sitka Tours
Had a local guide Sid who was fantastic! Highly recommend. He Fave a local and authentic flavor of the area.
Ryan was great. From Sitka. Knows a lot about area. Nice to be around with. No pressure. This tour was outside of our cruise. Reasonably priced.
This is the perfect tour for a short cruise stop in Sitka. The pickup couldn’t have been easier with everyone meeting right at the cruise port. We were given very detailed instructions from Koali the day prior, which I appreciated. Our tour guide, Sid, was so knowledgeable and authentic. We loved that we could visit the key sites, followed by walking around downtown, without worrying about making it back on the ship.
Ryan was a super fun knowledgeable tour guide that made the experience worth it. Even though it was a little hard to find right off the ship it was a small group of people that made it fun and a little sample of everything!!
Love Love Loved our experience!!! What a great tour guide!!!! So happy we booked this excursions!!
