Itinerary
The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa are among Alexandria’s most remarkable archaeological treasures and are often regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages. Dating back to the Roman era, these underground tombs showcase a unique fusion of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artistic influences. Visitors descend through a remarkable spiral staircase into a vast subterranean necropolis carved deep into the bedrock over 1,800 years ago. Explore ancient burial chambers, impressive statues, and mysterious passageways that reveal the rich cultural heritage of ancient Alexandria. Originally constructed as a family tomb, the site later expanded into one of the largest Roman burial complexes in Egypt. Highlights include beautifully decorated reliefs, fascinating sculptures that blend different artistic traditions, the famous Hall of Caracalla, and a series of funeral chambers filled with history and intrigue
Discover the remarkable Pompey's Pillar, one of Alexandria’s most iconic ancient landmarks and the largest Roman column ever erected outside Rome. Rising nearly 27 meters high, this impressive red granite monument was built in the 3rd century AD to honor the Roman Emperor Diocletian. Located within the archaeological area of the ancient Serapeum of Alexandria, the pillar is surrounded by fascinating ruins, ancient sphinx statues, and remnants of Alexandria’s rich Greek and Roman past. Despite its name, the monument has no historical connection to Pompey the Great. A visit to this historic site offers a unique opportunity to explore Alexandria’s Roman heritage, learn about the city's ancient civilizations, and enjoy excellent photo opportunities among the impressive archaeological remains. It is a must-see destination for history enthusiasts and travelers seeking to discover the cultural legacy of Egypt’s Mediterranean coast
Discover the magnificent Citadel of Qaitbay, one of Alexandria’s most iconic landmarks overlooking the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. Built in 1477 AD by Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaitbay, this remarkable fortress stands on the exact location of the legendary Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Explore the citadel’s massive stone walls, defensive towers, and historic chambers while learning about its vital role in protecting Egypt’s northern coast from naval invasions. The fortress represents a masterpiece of Islamic military architecture and remains one of the best-preserved medieval castles in the Middle East. As you walk along the ramparts, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, Alexandria’s harbor, and the city’s picturesque coastline. The site offers excellent opportunities for photography and provides a fascinating glimpse into Alexandria’s rich history spanning the Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, and Islamic eras.
Discover the legendary Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a striking modern tribute to the ancient Library of Alexandria—once the greatest center of knowledge in the ancient world. Set along the scenic Mediterranean coastline, this architectural masterpiece blends contemporary design with the spirit of antiquity, standing as a symbol of Egypt’s cultural and intellectual revival. Inside, visitors can explore world-class museums, rare manuscripts, interactive exhibitions, and beautifully designed reading halls that celebrate science, history, art, and human achievement. The library also showcases ancient civilizations, historical maps, and unique collections that bring Alexandria’s rich heritage to life. More than just a library, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a vibrant cultural landmark dedicated to knowledge, dialogue, and discovery. It offers an inspiring experience for history lovers, culture enthusiasts, and travelers seeking to connect with the intellectual soul of Alexandria.

Hamad ensured we had a great day when we visited Alexandria. He was very knowledgeable, he welcomed any question and he had a good sense of humour throughout! In addition, we travelled with our 5 month old baby and he was very understanding of the need to stop and feed or change nappies from time to time. We would highly recommend him to anyone travelling to Alexandria or other destinations with an interest in ancient Egypt or in fact modern Egyptian culture! :)
