Berlin Central Station
Our journey begins at the meeting point on the southern side of the modern Hauptbahnhof (Berlin Main Station). Following a ten-minute introduction to set the scene we make our way to the Moltke Bridge.
Moltkebrucke
This red sandstone ornate structure became the scene of some of the city’s most brutal fighting. Here we orientate ourselves to the Soviet 3rd Shock Army’s axis of advance and discuss the key challenges for the Soviets and the German defenders.
Bundeskanzleramt
After making our way across the Moltke Bridge we reach the then Interior Ministry, nicked named the “Himmler House” in the old diplomatic quarter. Following a Soviet artillery barrage at point blank range we discuss the horrific room to room fighting that took place here.
Platz der Republik
Continuing to ‘no man’s land’ we stand on the former Königsplatz and take stock of the 300m moon scape the 207th and 150th rifle divisions would have to cross before reaching the Reichstag.
Reichstag Building
As we walk toward the Reichstag, we discuss Hitler’s final moments in the Führer bunker only a few hundred meters away. Once at the foot of the Reichstag the moment has come to hear the stories of Sergeant Yegorov and Sergeant Kantariya and how they raised special banner No.5 on the roof – signifying the end.
During the final days of the Battle of Berlin, the Wiedendammer Bridge was one of the few bridges still intact over the Spree. On the night of May 1st, 1945, it was the scene of terrible carnage following a breakout attempt from the Führerbunker.

Excellent Berlin WWII Tour
Matt was our guide for the Battle of Berlin - WWII Battlefield Tour. He took us on a small journey through downtown Berlin explaining how things have changed in the city since WWII by showing current landmarks and displaying pictures of what they used to look like on a tablet. He was excellent at answering any questions we had and sharing his thoughts. We would happily book another tour with Matt in the future if we return to Berlin.

Soviet 3rd Shock Army/79th Rifle Corps Assault on the Reichstag in the Battle for Berlin.
Steve is an absolutely terrific professional guide. He is highly knowledgeable, organized, thoroughly prepared, and delivers a fun and interactive battlefield touring experience. Walking over the ground in Berlin where the final battle for the Reichstag took place was highly evocative and made me like I had a first hand account of the savage fighting in those fateful days of late April and early May in 1945. I highly recommend this tour!

Fantastic, meaningful, spirtual
Our experience last week was truly educational, deeply spiritual, and incredibly meaningful. Steve, our guide, brought everything to life with his engaging, friendly, and fun approach. Over three days, we explored key Berlin battle sites, Soviet war cemeteries, Seelow, and many significant Jewish and Holocaust landmarks across the city. Battle of Berlin walking tour - well worth it
An excellent walking tour telling the story of the Battle of Berlin. It was a small group led by Steve who was a fantastic guide. He was so incredibly knowledgeable and passionate and was able to answer any question and engage in discussion. Two of the group had an extensive knowledge of war history while my daughter and I didn't have the same background awareness. However, we still thoroughly enjoyed it, with Steve's use of maps and photographs making it come to life and allowing us to learn along the way. Great value for money. We would definitely book another tour with On the Front Tours again.
