Really Good experience. First time surfing definitely will do again! A must do if in Lima Peru. Guide was really helpful
Our experience with Pukana Surf in Lima was extremely disappointing and not what was advertised. Firstly, we were told by the tourist office that hotel pickup was not included. However, the confirmation email clearly stated that pickup was included within our area, which caused unnecessary confusion before the lesson. We were also reassured that the surfing location was safe and suitable for beginners. In reality, the area was extremely rocky and close to a pier. The current repeatedly pushed us towards the rocks and the pier, yet the instructor insisted that we continue paddling out in that direction. This made us feel very unsafe throughout the lesson. The email also stated that our belongings would be kept in a “super safe” place. Instead, everyone’s bags were simply left under a gazebo. There were people around the area, but it wasn’t clear whether they were part of the surf school, so we felt uneasy leaving our belongings there while we were in the water. The equipment was also disappointing. The wetsuits and surf shoes were clearly very worn and well past their best. The biggest issue, however, was the instructor. Although both my partner and I had surfed before and taken previous lessons, the instructor was very condescending and controlling. We were repeatedly told it had to be done “his way or no way,” rather than adapting to our experience level or explaining why he wanted us to change our technique. Whenever we asked questions, the answers were vague, dismissive, or unhelpful. The lesson itself was exhausting due to the strong current and constant paddling. When we asked for a short rest, we were given around 30 seconds before being told to catch the next wave, despite clearly saying we were tired. The most upsetting part of the experience was when I lost sight of my partner in the water. I couldn’t see either him or his board and became increasingly worried. I asked the instructor several times where he was, but instead of taking my concerns seriously, he repeatedly brushed me off with comments like “don’t worry” and “no problem,” while trying to get me to catch another wave. I refused to continue until I knew my partner was safe. Thankfully, he was, but it was frightening not to be listened to when I was clearly distressed. To make matters worse, once the instructor came over, he started criticising my partner, saying he “wasn’t listening,” rather than acknowledging why I was so concerned. By this point I had asked three separate times to return to shore, but it took far too long before I was finally allowed to go in. I left the water in tears out of frustration and anger. Overall, this experience felt poorly organised, misleadingly advertised, and lacking in customer care. Safety should always come first during a beginner-friendly surf lesson, and unfortunately we did not feel that our concerns were taken seriously. I would not recommend Pukana Surf based on our experience.
I would honestly recommend for anyone going solo or with a small group. Was very fun and the instructors were very friendly! They do also take photos and videos for you, but they are a little pricey. I paid the same price as the lesson itself for the photos. But was worth it to me at least!
I have been going to this surf school for two months now and I could not be happier with the experience. From the first day I have felt very welcomed and the atmosphere is incredible. Óscar is, without a doubt, the best instructor I could have had. And Javier, the owner of the school, is a very, very nice and pleasant person. He is always attentive to everything, makes you feel at home, and gives off very good vibes. I recommend this school 100%!!!!
The teacher was so patient and explained very well so everything was easy to take in everything even if it was our first time ever. Can really recommend to try!
Such an awesome experience ! The crew here was amazing ! We had 5 in our group and they took care of us like family. They picked us up and took us to the prime surf spot. We did a bit of training and then hit the water. We had a 9 yo with us and Oscar was amazing ! He was one on one with him teaching him the ropes of surfing. Our son was in heaven and now loves surfing. The rest of us had so much fun but we’re tired at the end! Highly recommend this team and lesson. Lots of fun!
Great instructor, great experience I really enjoyed learning surfing for the first time in Lima Peru
Cant really review the activity itself since I didnt get to partake. Booked on Viator for 12pm class. Arrived at the meeting point and no one was there. Found the Pukana Surf School tent and went there anyway. No one came over until 1225p asking why I was there. The first guy I spoke to (wasnt sure if he worked there or not) told me I was the only one booked for 12pm so I need to wait to try and get more in the class. Somewhat irritating because I walked almost the way there. I waited anyway as he tried to ask people passing by if they wanted to Surf. I waited until 1pm and the first guy seemed to disappear. At 1pm another guy came over and he seemed apologetic and friendly. He told me the "kids came at 11am instead" so he had to do their lesson and I could come back for another class at 4pm. I had something else booked so couldn't do it. Kind of a wasted hour for no activity. Not sure who's at fault for lack of communication: the surf school or Viator or both. Regardless, was a wasted few hours with no activity. Should have gone with one of the other vendors who approached me while waiting.
My first ever surfing lesson. Jorge was a great instructor, very patient and encouraging! I managed to stand up on the board twice and had lots of fun. The price was very reasonable.
Our first ever surfing lesson was great, Antony was super helpful and friendly with great English. Great value for money for around £17 each and lots of time in the water, we had a great time! Thank you Antony 🙏🏻 🏄🏻♀️🏄🏻♂️
